Twenty six point two, you just took it on the chin
Cause this was the race they made you want to win to soon find home base to be no place alone
And they called the lines on your face
The knots in your knees
The kids calling your name out to the middle of the street, so into dreams, you tie your shoe strings and then you go

But here’s the hard part
You never want to stop
Once you start
No you never want to

And when they all yelled “Run away”
I heard “Be my guest”
I thought I’d already caught you in some sort of safety net or spider web or wedding dress
I thought for sure your busy legs would never shred
But like a bomb threat on the goodyear blimp
There’s a lost ambulance flirting with an early ending and a safe bet to a last breath
I saw it coming, now what’s next?

Well here’s the hard part
You never want to stop
Once you start
No you never want to

Lose your life savings, then find them there waiting behind you
Cut out immediate greediness of any finish line fool.
Cross out the grading, degrading, start digging your way up
Take off your number, throw your hands in the air, hallelujia
Brace up the bones that don’t do it on their own, that’s what you are.
You cover my ceiling in rubber cement and those glow in the dark stars
You are my best friend
And I’m yours til death
And if we just step aside
I know this race will end
And we’ll come into our own
We’ll come out of our shell
We’ll start seeing the heavens
And beating the hells
Out of all control
Now out of our own bodies
I know the right me starts when, the wrong stops running

    Life is a long run.

Some people in My family run Marathons sometimes. If you run one, Kids shout your name from the sideline, if you put your name on your shirt. People cheer you on no matter who you are. My mother was running the Boston marathon the year the bomb exploded. We probably remember Those shredded legs.

Growing up you hit your stride somewhere. Something about marriage in there. Being caught in a spider web or wedding dress. But things change. and it seems like there are no choices. You can't control a thing. or can you.

I like how the song changes tempo. starts out reflective, maybe. but then it's all present, here, and not going away for you.

I don't know what this song is about.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
