"Hate To See Your Heart Break" as written by Hayley Williams and Taylor York....
There is not a single word, in the whole world
That could describe the hurt the dullest knife just sawing and back and forth
And ripping through the softest skin there ever was

How were you to know?
Well, how were you to know?

And I, I hate to see your heart break
I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close
But I’ve been there before
And I, I hate to see your heart break
I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close
But I’ve been there before

Love, happens all the time, to people who aren’t kind
And heroes who are blind,
Expecting perfect script in movie scenes
Once an awkward silence mystery

How were you to know?
Well how were you to know, oh, oh?

And I, I hate to see your heart break
I hate to see your eyes, get darker as they close
But I’ve been there before
And I, I hate to see your heart break
I hate to see your eyes, get darker as they close
But I’ve been there before

For all the air that’s in your lungs
For all the joy that is to come
For all the things that you’re alive to feel
Just let the pain remind you hearts can heal

Well, how were you to know?
Well, how were you to know?

And I, I hate to see your heart break
I hate to see your eyes, get darker as they close
But I’ve been there before
And I, I hate to see your heart break
I hate to see your eyes, get darker as they close
But I’ve been there before

General CommentIt's so nice to hear Hayley using her lower range and more of her head voice. And this song is really nice to listen to.
I almost think it's about her watching somebody with depression, she's hurting just from watching them hurt, and of course she doesn't want them to be hurting like this, but at the same time, she's quietly urging them to keep pushing on through the pain.

    I don't know, it's just a thought really. ^_^; Either way, it's a marvellous song.

General CommentThis is one of my favorite tracks from their new album. I too love how she sings this song. :)

It's about witnessing someone who is very close to you struggle with being sad. It takes over them and they are not the same as they used to be. It gets to a point where their pain radiates onto you and you want to relieve them of their burden. So you comfort them as best as you can, but sometimes that isn't enough and you feel helpless as they continue to stumble...

My InterpretationShe's a friend watching someone go through their first heartbreak. The knife symbolizes the pain the friend feels. This could also be depression too! DONT GET ME WRONG. But I'm taking a love, feel to it.

"How were you to know?" How was her friend to know that this person would break their heart? She knows the pain her friend is going through, she can see it. And she hates to see her friend's heartbreak, cause it breaks her heart too.

"Love, happens all the time, to people who aren’t kind
    And heroes who are blind,
Expecting perfect script in movie scenes
Once an awkward silence mystery" Her friend expected a fairytale, which wasnt going to happen, but while they're happy why ruin their expectations? Love is something that happens when least expected and its explainable.

"And I, I hate to see your heart break
I hate to see your eyes, get darker as they close
But I’ve been there before" She hates to see this persons heart get broken, and she hates to see their eyes (dilate, or cloud over) because she knows theyre sad. But she's been there before and would help them get through it, because she did.

My OpinionThe song is written for her friend not her lover or whatever. It's a beautiful song, I guess. It's there to show that she is there for her friend and hates to watch him go through the pain especially when she knows what it feels like hence, "I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close/ But I've been there before" Or it could be seen in a different way. She could be saying that she has seen him in this love-lost state before and she hates to see him go through it again.

General CommentLast night I broke down and the only person I could turn to was my ex boyfriend who I've dated for almost two years on and off. This song kind of reminds me of last night when I was really sad and he told me that no matter what he loves me and he would miss me if I died.

My InterpretationI think it's about a person who gets hurt and someone is watching them, from afar or up close.

It could also be Paramore's way of saying that they don't want to see people hurting or being sad.

I'm just a newbie so sorry if it's not good or correct. :)

My Interpretation"There is not a single word in the whole world
    That could describe the hurt"

It really hurts me to see you like this, I don't even know how to describe it.

"The dullest knife just sawing back and forth
And ripping through the softest skin there ever was"

Your relationship is breaking down slowly, so subtly you can't even see it but I can and I love you but I don't want it to be obvious, and I'm hiding it.

    "How were you to know?"

I could see that your relationship was breaking down, but I didn't tell you because I could see that you were happy, and even if you could see it, you were trying so hard not to

"I hate to see your heart break"

It hurts me to see you heartbroken like this

"I hate to see your eyes get darker as they close"

It hurts me to see that after your relationship didn't work out, you started gradually trusting people less and less and now I feel like I don't even know you anymore, you aren't yourself and you are refusing to trust anyone.

    "But I've been there before"

I've been in a situation just like yours so I know what I'm talking about.

    "Love happens all the time"

    Means exactly what it says

"To people who aren't kind and heroes who are blind"

Sometimes in relationships, one of the people is just using the other person, but the other person loves and trusts them and is oblivious to the fact that they are just being used.

    "Expecting perfect scripted movie scenes"

You are expecting relationships to be just like the ones in films

"Who wants an awkward, silent mystery?"

Why would you want me? I never know what to say to you.

"For all the air that's in your lungs"

You still have a long time to live.

"For all the joy that is to come"

You still have plenty of happy times ahead of you

"For all the things that you're alive to feel"

There are so many other things than just romantic love, there's more to life than that

"Just let the pain remind you hearts can heal"

A broken heart can be mended
