"Amsterdam" as written by Elena Veronica Tonra and Igor Alexandre Haefeli....
Skin up like lightning
Breathing flames from tourist trade
Your eyes go quite frightening
You lock your gaze on to my face

Heavy eye crawling on the roadside
Swinging from the street lights

I hope by the morning I will have grown back
By the morning I will have grown back
I'll escape with him
Show him all my skin
Then I'll go
I'll go home
Amsterdam

I'm a flying kite in the breeze just
Restlessly seeking images a child needs to help them sleep
I was thinking that I should see someone
Just to find out that I'm alright

By the morning I would've grown back
By the morning I would've grown back
I'll escape with him
Showing all my skin
Then I'll go
I'll go home
Amsterdam

I used to dream of
Adventure
When I was younger
With lungs miniature
Good night with killing
Our brain cells
Is this called living
Or something else
Or something else

By the morning I would've grown back
By the morning I would've grown back
By the morning I would've grown back
By the morning I would've grown back

General CommentThe lyrics to the first verse aren't correct

    Skin off like lightning
    Breathing flames from touristry
    Your eyes go gray, frightening
You lock your gaze on to my face

Heavy eye, crawling on the roadside
    Swinging from the street lights

My Interpretationi think its about prostitution how she came through touristy and she is scared of the men but she has good times she is heavy eyed drunk on the streets on drugs to cope with the life then she will escape with him and show him all her skin then go back home to amsterdam where prostitution is legal as well as drugs. by the morning she would have grown back meaning everything would go back to how is was before she escaped with him and now shes back to her prostitution and drugs life. she is a flying kite in the breeze she is a wanderer who uses drugs to escape reality and to help her sleep. her life is crazy but some how she likes it and wonders if she is sane alright. she dream pt of adventure when she was younger she was on drugs most likely weed killing her brain cells and she in some strange way likes her life because it brings adventure and pleasure. is this called living or something else? she question her life. by the morning she would be alright

What do you think about my interpretation?

My InterpretationI see it as the opposite almost. I see it as how things change when you grow older. Instead of the things you do as a child, when you're carefree and everything was so happy, when you're older the reality sets in, and life can get nearly unbearable. So to let loose, to cling to that lost innocence/joy you drink, you have sex and flings, you use drugs, just to escape reality a little. All the while you hope by doing these things the parts you lose during life grow back, your joy and innocence, and maybe in the morning you become who you once were before things got so hard. Maybe go home, and I take home to mean a sense of comfort, safety, and warmth. (regardless of what the literal meaning of home may be.)

Either way, I like reading different interpretations of songs from mine.

My InterpretationI enjoy and respect the great interpretations. Beautiful songs like this can mean different things to different folks. Here is my interpretation.

The song is about the profound impact Amsterdam had on a person going through tremendous pain. The strong sexual and drug inuendos dramatize the effect of the impact.

The first verse touches on the desirable appeal of the city that locks her in. She emphasizes the attraction. The second verse confirms why: she is seeking for an opportunity to reconnect to her world before this pain.

The chorus peaks both musically and metaphorically as she gives completely into the city. The profound impact of "giving herself" to Amsterdam is allowing her a chance to return to her former self, the person she was before all the pain and misery she is in.

She closes by emphasizing the surrealness of what Amsterdam has done for her.

[I'm sorry that I made you have to go through it - but I'm so proud of how you persevered and proved me wrong. I will always love you.]

My InterpretationI think you all got it wrong my interpretation is as follows

She took some magic mushrooms/lsd/other spacy drugs in Amsterdam with her friend

Flashing lights in a city with a booming tourist trade can look like flames on shrooms (touristy)
Your eyes go very big on mushrooms and that can look scary (allot can look scary on shrooms tho)
Crawling on the roadside lights swinging... yeah thats what walking feels like :)

I'm a flying kite in the breeze just
Restlessly seeking images a child needs to help them sleep
I was thinking that I should see someone
Just to find out that I'm alright

Feeling free (flying) but crazy and trying to calm yourself wich can be difficult on shrooms

But most of all, by the morning I will have grown back.
Tripping on mushrooms can really make you feel like a totally different person, like you see yourself from a different persons point of view. It can feel like you are not you anymore. But by the morning you will grow yourself back and feel normal.

Also very typical thing to do for young tourists from the UK in Amsterdam is taking shrooms.

I live in Amsterdam, and took shrooms quite some times. It just popped to me the 2nd time reading the lyrics before seeing other peoples intrepetation and still makes more sense than others to me now,

Lyrics have quite some mistakes here and should be updated

General CommentI see these lyrics as an idea of escape, staying with someone in a place they can act like children, and hope everything will be back to normal, adult life in the morning.

Song MeaningI hope by the morning I will have grown back
By the morning I will have grown back
    I'll escape with him
    Show him all my skin
    Then I'll go
    I'll go home
    Amsterdam

In the night i'll "show him all my skin" in short, have sex and go home and everything will be fine and it doesn't matter. Since home (amsterdam) is comforting.

By the morning I would've grown back (everything will be fine and it doesn't matter)

but i think it's I used to dream of
    Adventure
    When I was younger
    With lungs miniature
    Good night with killing
    Our brain cells
    Is this called living
    Or something else
    Or something else

~expecting more from life and not following your dreams

When i was a kid I had big dreams, but now I get drunk (kill brain cells)in the evening and go to sleep, am I doing right?

I got no clue what she means by Amsterdam though and it isn't really a drug city.. just a city which tend to have drugs around. also, it isn't the only place where you can get weed, you can get that in a lot of towns, but that city is the only place tourists know off.
    ~source, I'm from Holland

Anyway, I hope that I was atleast a bit right with a part of the song's meaning

General CommentSo I think the opening lyrics are:

    "Skin up, like lightening "
..as in to "skin up" a joint (like you would in Amsterdam), like lightening (very fast)

"Breathe in flames from tourist trade"
smoke the thing like all the tourists do there.

    "Your eyes go quite frightening"
like they do when you're high.

My InterpretationI do think it is about prostitution but I think when she sings "by the morning I will have grown back" she means that by the morning she will be herself again (not a prostitute) and when she sings "I'll escape with him
Show him all my skin" she's talking about going home with a man and having sex with him. "Then I'll go
    I'll go home
Amsterdam" then in the morning she'll go home. To Amsterdam
