"Falling" as written by David K. Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti....
I hurl
Into the moment like I'm standing at the edge (I know)
That no one's gonna turn me around
Just one more step, I could let go
Oh and in the middle,
I hear the voices and they're calling for me now (I know)
And nothing's gonna wake me now
'Cause I'm a slave to the sound

And they're calling
Don't stop, no, I'll never give up
And I'll never look back, just hold your head up
And if it gets rough, it's time to get rough
They keep saying
Don't stop, no one's ever enough
I'll never look back, never give up
And if it gets rough, it's time to get rough
Oh, But now I'm falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling
Falling, oh

Now we're going down, ah
And I can feel the eyes are watching us so closely oh
I'm trying not to make a sound
'Cause I'll be found out somehow

So keep calling
Don't stop, no, I'll never give up
And I'll never look back, just hold your head up
And if it gets rough, it's time to get rough ah
They keep saying
Don't stop, no one's ever enough
I'll never look back, never give up
And if it gets rough, it's time to get rough
But now I'm

Into the fire feeling higher than the truth(I'm falling)
I can feel the heat but I'm not burning (But now)
Feeling desire, feeling tired, hungry too (I'm falling)
Feels like I'm falling, yeah
I can hear them calling (But now I'm falling)

Into the fire feeling higher than the truth(I'm falling)
I can feel the heat but I'm not burning (But now I'm falling)
Feeling desire, feeling tired, hungry too (I'm falling)
Feels like I'm falling, yeah
I can hear them calling (Now I'm falling)

Falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling
Falling, Falling, falling
falling, oh
And now I'm falling

Falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling, oh
And now I'm falling

Falling, falling, falling, falling
Fall yeah
But now I'm falling
Falling, falling, falling, falling
Fall-ing
And now I'm falling

Into the fire feeling higher than the truth (But now I'm falling)
I can feel the heat but I'm not burning (I'm falling)
Feeling desire, feeling tired, hungry too (But now I'm falling)
Feels like I'm falling, yeah
I can hear them calling (fire)

Into the fire feeling higher than the truth (But now I'm falling)
I can feel the heat but I'm not burning (I'm falling)
Feeling desire, feeling tired, hungry too (But now I'm falling)
Feels like I'm falling, yeah
I can hear them calling

Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up, I'll never give up (But now I'm falling)

Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up (I'm falling)
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up, I'll never give up (But now I'm falling)

Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up (I'm falling)
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up, I'll never give up (But now I'm falling)

Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up (I'm falling)
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up, I'll never give up (But now I'm falling)

Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up, I'll never give up (But now I'm falling)

Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up, I'll never give up (But now I'm falling)

My InterpretationBasically, the song talks about being finally realized. When you finally get what you were looking for, or finally be who you want to. It ends with decisiveness of the truth, and being beyond what people say:
“I look into the moment like I’m standing at the edge
But no ones gonna turn me around
Just one more step, I could let go”
These verses make everything clear. Just like you were at the edge, at the finish line, at the end, and no one else can make you back. You’ve got it, you’ve done it. You’ve finally finished another step.
“Oh and in the middle, I hear the voices
And they’re calling for me now
But nothing’s gonna wake me now
Cause I’m a slave to the sad heaven.”
In the meantime people tell you that you’re not able, but you’re not hearing them, cause you are a slave to your own army. You are looking for something that they consider a “sad heaven”, but it’s exactly what you want.

    “And they’re calling,
Don’t stop, no, I’ll never give up
And I’ll never look up, just hold your head up
And if it gets rough, it’s time to get rough.” (2x)
Again. You don’t have to stop just because people is calling you, and if it gets rough, you got to get rough too.

-> But now falling, falling, falling. <- ”
This verse means falling into desires, like freeing up your mind, going deep into your wishes.

    “I look up and down,
And I can feel the eyes, they’re watching us so closely oh
I’m trying not to make a sound
Cause I’ll be found out some high oh”
“They’re watching us so closely”. It means that everybody is waiting for your failure.
“I’m trying not to make a sound, cause I’ll be found out some high”. It means being patient and careful, cause one day they will see that you were right.

“Step into the fire feeling higher than the truth
    (I’m falling)
I can feel the heat but I’m not burning
    (but now I’m falling)”
It means that you are inside of a situation that should let you down, but you already know the truth. So you go beyond the fake truth and keep falling into your dreams.

“Feeling desire, feel the tired …
    (I’m falling)
    Feels like I’m falling, yeah
    I can hear them calling”
The more they tell you to give up, more you realize that you’re right.

    “(I’m falling)
    Feels like I’m falling, yeah
    I can hear them calling
    (now I’m falling)”…

“never look up, never give up
never look up, never give up
never look up, never give up
    I’ll never give up
    I’ll never give up”

My Interpretationi feel this song is about falling in love, hence the title. throughout the lyrics, there are mentions of 'voices' that are 'calling', and to not stop, or give up, which leads me to believe that the person the narrator has fallen for is someone people don't approve of, and she encourages herself throughout the song to just follow her heart and let herself go (standing at the edge, falling metaphors), and how it isn't as bad as she may have thought it would have been in the end ("step into the fire feeling higher than the truth/i can feel the heat but i'm not burning"), where the "truth" implies what people have told her about the person she fell for. it's a song about following your heart, no matter where it takes you

General CommentMan I could so give you the interpretation but that would ruin the song for you wouldn't it? haha if not here is my interpretation:

I interpret "Falling" as describing and giving new flavor to the cliche metaphor; taking a leap of faith. Thee Danielle says "I'm standing at the edge (like edge of a cliff)...just one more step I could let go (like fall of the edge of the cliff) thus you would be falling?

Then the artist says " OH, and in the middle, I hear the voices and they're calling for me now I know". I take the Middle to be the average the normal, a normal life, the people who live a normal existence, and the artist is feeling torn between going to the normal existence or taking 1 more step and letting go. She walks towards the middle because they are cajoling her to the middle by saying "dont stop (like keep coming to the middle) No one is ever enough (like your not good enough for the leap of faith)". You know she is walking toward the middle because in the first verse she says 1 more step, well you wouldnt have to keep coming if you only had 1 more step, right? Thus shes headed for the middle.

Then the song says, Ill never look back and never give up, so the song singer is saying she chose the leap of faith and now feels higher than the truth, feels the heat, but isnt burning, so you should take the leap of faith too. Pretty awesome song if you've ever tried to reach a dream, or even been bold enough to fall in love while fully conscious.

Anyway, checkout the live version from 2012 @ the itunes festival because she adds to the second verse and they, as a group, are phenomenal, so do yourself that favor. OH and let me know what you think of my interpretation! Peace
