"Hospital For Souls" as written by and Oliver Scott Sykes Lee David Malia....
And then I found out how hard it is to really change,
Even hell can get comfy once you've settled in.
I just wanted the numb inside me to leave.
No matter how fucked you get,
The sun will return and you come back down!
The funny thing is all I ever wanted I already had
There's glimpses of heaven in every day
In the friends that I have, the music I made,
The love that I feel, I just had to start again

The days are a death wish
A witch hunt for an exit
I am powerless

The fragile, the broken
Sit in circles and stay unspoken
We are powerless

Because we all walk alone on an empty staircase
Idle in the halls and nameless faces
I am powerless

Everybody wants to go to heaven
But nobody wants to die
I can fear death no longer
I've died a thousand times

A wasteful universe
And we don't know our soul was
Emptiness inside our heads
But no one dares to dwell

Throw me to the flames
Watch me burn
Set my world ablaze
Watch me burn

How are we on a scale of one to ten?
You can tell me, what do you say?
Do you wanna talk about it?
How does that make you feel?

Have you ever took a blade to your wrists
Have you've been skipping meals
We're gonna try something new today
How does that make you feel?

Hold me close, don't let go, watch me
Hold me close, don't let go, watch me
Hold me close, don't let go, watch me
In this hospital for souls

Hold me close, don't let go, watch me
Hold me close, don't let go, watch me
Hold me close, don't let go, watch me
In this hospital for souls

Hold me close, don't let go, watch me
Hold me close, don't let go, watch me
Hold me close, don't let go, watch me
In this hospital for souls

Hold me close, don't let go, watch me burn
Hold me close, tell me go, watch me burn
Hold me close, don't let go, watch me burn
In this hospital for souls

Hold me close, don't let go, watch me burn
Hold me close, tell me go, watch me burn
Hold me close, don't let go, watch me burn
In this hospital for souls

My OpinionThere's a lot being talked about in this song.

The beginning monologue is Oli basically talking about ridding his drug addiction. He found out how hard it is too quit. He got comfortable with being addicted. He did the drugs so the pain would leave. Some of the lyrics are wrong here, he is really saying, "there's always a hell when you come back down", and by that it means that no matter how many times he would get high, the numbness would always come back when he sobered up. He then realizes that everything he ever wanted and longed for was right in front of him. In his friends, the music he makes, the love from his fans, he had to quit the addiction.

    Onto the song.

"The days are a death wish
A witch hunt for an exit
    I am powerless"

Daily suicidal thoughts. Looking for a way out. He's powerless.

    "The fragile, the broken
Sit in circles and stay unspoken
    We are powerless"

Connecting with the listener. People aren't speaking out about their depression because they feel scared and powerless.

"Because we all walk alone on an empty staircase
Idle in the halls and nameless faces
    I am powerless"

We walk alone. Idle. No talking. Nameless faces. Lonelyness. Sadness.

"Everybody wants to go to heaven
    But nobody wants to die"

Now here is where it can get confusing for some. In my opinion this is about life/death in general and religious beliefs. Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die.. its the truth ain't it? But if heaven is so amazing.. why is everyone scared of death?

"I can fear death no longer
    I've died a thousand times"

Some may argue but i think its pretty obvious whats being stated here.
Oli has realized the ultimate truth.
    We are all one.
He is you. And you are me. We are all one. We've lived thousands and millions of lives. As beings. Separate consciousnesses. Split into millions of living beings. He is no longer scared of death because he believes that their will always new life for him to experience. Its impossible to explain this line in short of writing a book about it. Take it how you want to take it.

This next part of lyrics is also wrong, its actually.

    "Why explore the universe
    When we don't know ourselves?

Here he is saying, as humans, why explore the universe with all these problems and unanswered questions we have here on earth?

"There's an emptiness inside our heads
That no one dares to dwell..."

This is almost impossible too figure out 100% but my guess is he is talking more about the ultimate truth, religion and afterlife. Possibly stating (like he has many times on previous albums) that we are all going to die. And there is no afterlife. And there's nothing anyone can do about it. No one dares question it because it is, in fact, so terrifyingly true.

Lyrics explain themselves for the rest of the song.
Amazing, Amazing lyrics written here. Possibly there most mature work. Really speaks to me and i'm sure, if your reading this, you as well.

My Opinionomgeeeeeee i must say oli sykes British accent is sooooo sexy <3 :) ohkayy now the song uhmm my opinion is this song is about finding himself ,, just my opinion

the thing i like about his songs is that he uses his life ,, he puts his feelings into his songs ,, but that people can really take the songs and interpret it into their own lives i never ever felt so much emotions in songs as when i heard oliis music ... if you listen to this song it could be about love because he says no matter how fucked you get its always there when you come back down (meaning you know when you try to drown your sadness of being dumbed with geting high or drinking till you so pissed ? now wat hes tryna say is that hes obviously been with a girl ,, and she doesnt like the dark side of him ,, or his drug addiction so she told him to go to a shrink but he does this cuz he loves her and he doesnt want to lose her ,, but i think she alredy left him ,,and he says all he ever wanted he already had because he was happy with her and ya now hes tryna fight for her so hes goin to a shrink and a mental house or rehab

the days are a death wish , a witch hunt for an exit , i am powerless (he is in rehab or the mental home and he wants to get out fo there but he cant cause he wants her back)

the fragile , the broken sit in circles and stay unspoken we are powerless (hes obviously with other people who also have a problems)

    im paraphrasing btw

have you ever taken a blade to your wrists ? have you been skipping meals ? were goin to try something new today how does that make you feel ? (thats normaly wat shrinks ask so thats the shrink talking to oli )

    last of all

hold me close dont let go (he doesnt want to lose her he needs her)

    just my opinion

    But nobody wants to die"

To me it means that everyone wants to be happy, but it requires some hard work that no one wants to do.

Song MeaningSo firstly I'd just want to say that there is not only one interpretation to any BMTH song. Escpecially this one, this is my all time favorite song from all and I'll share my interpretation with you now.

    [Spoken]
And then I found out how hard it is to really change.
Even hell can get comfy once you've settled in.

Here he is try to say how its so hard to change because some bad things become habits to you. And first you hate them, later you get used to them and in the end you start to love them so much, no matter how much they hurt you. You want them to stay.

I just wanted the numb inside me to leave.

So as most of you know Oli's story about drug addiction, depression and things like that... And things like that make you numb. You stop feeling anything. Thats worst, and all you wanna do is feel something. Warm or cold it doesnt even matter now, just anything to feel alive. That is why we do it all, to feel alive.

No matter how fucked you get, there's always hell when you come back down.

This practically means that no matter how high, drunk or wasted you get, theres always moment after hours of all that when you realize it didnt help, pain is still here, always will be...

The funny thing is all I ever wanted I already had.
There's glimpses of heaven in every day.
In the friends I have, the music I make, the love that I feel.
I just had to start again.

So here he is saying what motivated him to change, what made him stop drugs. He realized he have great friends who care, job that he fucking adores, girl of his fucking dreams. He couldnt let his friend, girl or fans suffer any more. He changed 'cause of them...

The days are a death wish
A witch hunt for an exit
    I am powerless...

Here he is saying how he wants death to come every day. Suicide thoughts. Everything just to end this all. Witch hunt represents state where everything is allowed, you can do anything and all will be forgiven only if you kill the witch (pain). So were all looking for an escape of this all: drink or drug or pill or blade; we all have our ways... But whatever he do, he cannot make the pain go away, he is powerless.

    The fragile, the broken
Sit in circles and stay unspoken
    We are powerless...

He speaks in name of all of us who feel way like he do. He says we are weak and broken, fucked up. We should sit together in circle and theres no need for us to say our stories, theyre all very similiar, we just need to be close to each other, be saviour one to another...

Because we all walk alone on an empty staircase
    Silent halls and nameless faces
    I am powerless...

We wonder around mental hospitals and therapists and their buildings and halls and bunch of people out there pretending they can help us. But they cant, only we could help ourselves, but we are powerless...

Everybody wants to go to Heaven
    But nobody wants to die
I can't fear death no longer
    I've died a thousand times

Here he says how people keep being "good" in life so they can go to Heaven and they dont enjoy life at all, he says if they want Heaven so much why dont they just die now. He says he doesnt fear death cause he died 1000 times. Thats every time he wanted to end his life, every time he was broken, every time he didnt live, just tried to survive the day hoping next will be better.

    Why explore the universe
    When we don't know ourselves?

I'd say this is pretty clear. People pretend they know everything about world, but they know least about human mind.

There's an emptiness inside our heads
That no one dares to dwell...

He says theres an emptiness inside our heads, that represents how fucked up we all are, and thats the reason why no one wants to stay, everyone keep leaving...

    Throw me to the flames
    Watch me burn!
    Set my world ablaze
    Watch me burn!

Flames are death. He says kill me. Start killing me and watch me dying. Kill my whole world and watch me die. Cause if you truely love me you will want death on me as much as I want it to myself.

How are we on a scale of one to ten?
Could you tell me what you see?
Do you wanna talk about it?
How does that make you feel?

These are the pointless questions therapists and councoulers are asking us. Problem is that most of the time we dont know how to explain them what we feel cause its like they cannot understand it...

Have you ever took a blade to your wrists?
    Have you been skipping meals?
We're gonna try something new today
How does that make you feel?

Have you ever cut yourself just to try to feel better? Have you ever starved yourself so you can like your body a bit more. We are gonna try some new approach to you today, tell me do you feel loved now?

Hold me close, don't let go
    Watch me (burn)
Hold me close, don't let go
    Watch me (burn)
Hold me close, don't let go
    Watch me (burn)
    In this hospital for souls

Here he says that all we actually need is love. We want to feel loved. We want to be held by person we love and just be there, feel warm and safe, to feel that no matter what our problems are that all will be okay. Hold me, and watch me how I die everyday and how I lost energy to live long time ago and stay. Dont get scared and leave, I know Im a risk that you cannot afford and that nothing is certain with me, but stay... just stay here with me in this hospital for souls...

My InterpretationFrom listening to the whole album of Sempiternal, and also watching a couple of interviews of Oli Sykes and talking about the album, this is just my opinon, but I think that from what he said is that this album (Sempiternal) means "Everlasting" and that the album itself had to do with a lot with things that happens everyday. Pretty much about how this world has come to be, and that there's just things that aren't going to stop anytime soon, they're by Oli's definition, "Everlasting" and that the sooner we realize that we can't always control things and make EVERYTHING better, the better off we will be. As long as we realize it, admit what we've done, and accept the fact that we've done it, the easier it will be to let go. This whole album, in my opinion, is based on all that, and just realizing that you can't always change things. Just accept and cherish what you have now.

My InterpretationFirst off I would like to say that this is the first song I have ever herd of Bring Me the Horizon.

This song literally made me sick to my stomach the first time I herd it.

But not in a bad way this is one of those songs that just describes how you are feeling so well that you just break down and cry because it says everything you feel, and it actually makes your emotions real.

For me (because of my own addictions and struggles) this song is about a person that struggles with freeing themselves from an addiction. For me it was self harm, bulimia, and depression, and this song fits that perfectly.

    The part where he says:

How are we on a scale of one to ten?
You can tell me, what do you say?
Do you wanna talk about it?
How does that make you feel?

Have you ever took a blade to your wrists
    Have you've been skipping meals
We're gonna try something new today
How does that make you feel?

This is my whole life I spent time in rehab and I was asked these questions on an hourly basis. I would always want to scream at them because all i have ever wanted was for someone to just give me a hug and tell me its going to be ok. So when the lyrics below came up I just about lost it.

Hold me close, don't let go, watch me
Hold me close, don't let go, watch me
Hold me close, don't let go, watch me
    In this hospital for souls

This song describes my addiction to a T. I have listened to this song hundreds of times and I still cry when I hear it.
