"Black Balloons" as written by Taylor David Rice, Ryan Clinton Hahn, Matthew James Frazier and Kelcey Paul Ayer....
I can see the words as they come out your mouth
Black balloons form into a poison cloud
Hold me down and bring me back up again
Until I can't, I can't tell the difference

Circling vultures always overhead
Force your hand
Every day is life or death
Hold me down
And bring me back up again
Until I can't,
I can't tell the difference

Now you've changed your name
Do they still ask you twice?
I look on
Red lights flashing for applause
Play your part
Swear you're who you say you are

You hold me down
And bring me back up again
Until I can't,
I can't tell the difference

My InterpretationThis about being in a verbally abusive relationship of any type.
Black Balloons are when people just say judgmental, mean things out of hurt.
The verbally abusive people will make you feel good one day and then spew hate and bring you down. You get so mixed up you can't tell the difference.

General CommentAbsolutely brilliant song. Local Natives never fail to impress, incredible sound for an incredible band.

General CommentI think there's a divorce in here. "Now you've changed your name / Do they still ask you twice?" And then they see each other in public, and the angry partner is daring the other to "play your part" - act nice and normal rather than vicious and abusive.
