"You & I" as written by Taylor David Rice, Ryan Clinton Hahn, Matthew James Frazier and Kelcey Paul Ayer....
You and I, we were always strong
It was enough to keep me on
Believe me.

And I woke up with my green eyes blue
And all I think about is you
And it feels

When did your love,
When did your love go cold?
The closer I get, the farther I have to go
To places we don't know
To places we don't know
To places we don't know
To places we don't know

In all this light, all I feel is dark
Had the sun without its warmth
I'm freezing

When did your love, when did your love go cold?
The closer I get, the farther I have to go
To places we don't know
To places we don't know
To places we don't know
To places we don't know

My InterpretationI guess it is about two people who were just friends, and then suddenly his green eyes turned blue, I suppose the guy wanted this friendship to mean something more.

As he gets his expectations denied, he feels and discovers new sides of both of them he had no idea of.

And now he's lost everything, I think. So this is a song about losing a good friend out of not noticing a friendzone.

My InterpretationThis song is about an ex who fell out of love and let his side. He feels like his love is growing but the other person has turn indifferent. He feels lost and cold (but he still loves her). My favorite song in this album.

My InterpretationThis song is about someone falling out of love. He loves her but he feels like he is loosing her. He wants to know when her love went cold. He's trying to figure it out but he just doesn't know because he's never been in a place like this before.

General CommentI think this song is about a once wonderful relationship turned abusive, and the slew of feelings the narrator experiences as a result. "And I woke up/With my green eyes blue" could refer to his/her partner physically injuring them, which also ties in with the next line: "And all I think about is you/and your fist."

Just my take at least. I imagine the narrator feels trapped, knowing that they should leave the relationship but wanting to rekindle or save what it once was ("The closer I get/the further I have to go")

My Interpretationfirst off, one of my favorites off the album. his voice soars and the emotions run high in this song. in the first verse, he's saying that things were great. but in the second verse, when "his green eyes turned blue", i don't necessarily think that the relationship turned abusive. i think it's just a way of saying that things have changed, both in "you and i". they see each other in a different "shade", different than before. during the "when did your love grow cold?", he wants their love to be hot like it was, which is further explored with the sun metaphor. "the closer i get/ the farther i have to go/ to places we don't know" is his want to be closer, to rekindle their love, but for some reason, it isn't reciprocal. they don't communicate like they once did and therefore don't know where the other person is.

this song speaks to me and recently, i completely relate to it. taking a break from a relationship for personal space makes it seem like you don't know where to go anymore, but all you want is to be with that other person

General CommentMy girlfriend recommended this song to me, and it applies to us. It reminds of the line we draw based on LDS church standards and being a high school couple. The closer I get to her there's something that takes me and it's something we can't control. The line that doesn't apply is when did your love go cold.. I hope it never applies actually. Beautiful song.
