I can't take them on my own, my own
Pa, I'm not the one you know, you know
I have killed a man and all I know is
I am on the run and go

Don't wanna call you in the nighttime
Don't wanna give you all my pieces
Don't wanna hand you all my trouble
Don't wanna give you all my demons
You'll have to watch me struggle
From several rooms away
But tonight, I'll need you to stay

Do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do
Do

I am up against the wall, the wall
Pa, I hear them coming down the hall
I have killed a man and all I know is
I am on the run and go

Don't wanna call you in the nighttime
Don't wanna give you all my pieces
Don't wanna hand you all my trouble
Don't wanna give you all my demons
You'll have to watch me struggle
From several rooms away
But tonight, I'll need you to stay

Do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do, do, do, do

Cold nights under siege from accusations
Cerebral thunder in one-way conversations
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh

Don't wanna call you in the nighttime
Don't wanna give you all my pieces
Don't wanna hand you all my trouble
Don't wanna give you all my demons
You'll have to watch me struggle
From several rooms away
But tonight, I'll need you to stay

Tonight, I'll need you to stay
Tonight, I'll need you to stay
Tonight, I'll need you to stay
Tonight, I'll need you to stay

    My Interpretation

As a person who struggles with mental problems, I know that one of the hardest things is controlling myself. I have a good friend, who is my shoulder to lean on. I feel like this story is about that kind of person. When you are up at three in the morning contemplating suicide you feel like you don't want to burden that person, but when you are facing your past, you don't have a problem telling them that you need them to stay.

    My Interpretation

You could take it secularly and say that it's a person who is plagued with depression and doesn't want to bother the one person who will understand with all their problems until they truely need them in a very very dark place.

Or the way I take it is he doesn't want to go to God with all of his problems, similar to Fake You Out. He wants to pretend like it's all fine and put on a happy façade except it's not. He's plagued with all these demons and the guilt that he "has killed a man" which is Jesus. He took the life of a truly perfect man in order for him to love. He doesn't feel like God is close because of the "one way conversations" of prayer. But in the end he knows that the Rock is there for him to anchor on and decides he needs Him to stay with him through the night.

    My Interpretation

I am also a person with mental problems, and I find this song super relatable. I feel like it's about being caught between that guilt of burdening your loved ones with your problems, not wanting to trouble them, but also needing them desperately. At least that's what I get from the lines

"You'll have to watch me struggle From several rooms away But tonight I'll need you to stay"

It's wanting to push them away to protect them, but also needing their presence.

The rest of the song I feel depicts the descent into a breakdown. One of those danger nights where you try to stop the bad thoughts but they come anyway, and you just have to ride it out until it's over. Reminds me of a panic attack: once it starts, no one can make it stop, and you have to just wait it out. However, having simply the presence of a loved one nearby makes it so much better. And I think that sums up the whole song: sometimes people can't help us through an episode, but their simple presence nearby is reassuring and necessary, even if we feel guilty for making them stay.

Also, on the topic of religious themes: I think part of what makes this song great is that the person being addressed could be anyone. God, a lover, or a friend.

Obviously, he has depression and is suicidal, but he doesn't want to burden anyone with it.

"Don't want to call you in the night time, don't want to give you all my pieces. Don't want to hand you all my troubles, don't want to give you all my demons. You'll have to watch me struggle from several rooms away..." it's him pushing people away. He doesn't want people to know everything about him, because in the past, he gave them all his pieces, and that person left, so now he keeps it all inside out of fear someone will do it again.

"But tonight, I need you to stay." This time, he needs them to stay. He needs them to stay because he has a particularly bad feeling about what he might do, or will do, if they leave.

"I've killed a man and all I know is I am on the run and go" I have killed a man could be two things, but they are both him. He either committed suicide, or he killed the person he used to be, or could have been.

I think this is about the play romeo and juilet because Romeo kills tybalt and he goes to his dad saying he doesnt know what to do and then he runs to juliet and you know..spend the night with her. Also Romeo says he is on the run and go because if they catch him he will get banish or otherwise die so thats why.

Schizophrenia has taken over. I can't take them in my own are the people who are staff at the hospital. He belives he killed a man but that man was actually himself. You'll have to watch me Struggle from several rooms away to me means they have him in solitary on meds and the other personalities are watching him take the blame. His brain/imagination/mental well being is on the run and go. He doesn't want his other personalities to help him out of the situation but he wants them there just in case. Or it could be a priest as in last rites or whatever that is.The do do do do's I can imagine him laughing and skipping around with The others over The body of The "man" he killed. Cold nights under siege of accusations .. someone is grilling him to tell what happened or his personalities are trying to go over questions and answers to get them out of there. The line that got for me hooked on this song is the cerebral thunder one way conversations It's the panic and the abandonment of ship from the others or the after shocks from electric shock. And he knows the staff can't see these other people so he looks like he's talking to himself OR staff or cop is badgering him and he's overwhelmed or hasn't finished conferring with the others yet to get the words out. YIKES! Now my brain hurts LoL

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
