In her eyes I see her sorrow
An undying tear
For hours there's no tomorrow
For hours no fear

In silence she spoke her feelings
In silence she cried
For years she has searched for healings
For years she has tried

In recent days fled her despair
Dispelled to a cloud
A wind blew, rustled in her hair
She turned, smiled, proud

From that day I saw everything
From that day I knew
As she'd overcome in singing
Forever anew

I was beyond the stars
I knew not of this feeling, surreal
Though days will pass, I will always cherish you
Though year won't last, you'll be here in me

In her eyes gleams a beast
It rose again, and she fell
Her tears paint rivers on an arid sky
And her pain fed the beast, the beast inside

    Song Meaning

This song is about a short relationship with the main character and a potential lover, about how she had lived a dismal life and had a very dreadful past. When she met the main character, she was greeted with happiness and retuned it for a short time, but her past overcame her and she was taken back down into depression. The main character was left alone and confused.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

American Town

Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
