I have always been the type to think before I speak
I have always been the type to look before I leap
And like a bolt out of the blue
I was struck and there was you
For a moment I believed that I could let go

You lift me up into the sky
Feels like I could fly
I'm never gonna die
And I almost made it but not quite
Now you're flyin' out of sight
And you know I can't come with you
Cause I'll always be scared of heights

I didn't think I'd meet someone who'd make me change my ways
Never thought I'd find someone who'd brighten up my days
Someone who'd make me forget
My hands were tied, my wings were clipped
Someone who'd make me believe that I could let go

You lift me up into the sky
Feels like I could fly
I'm never gonna die
And I almost made it but not quite
You're flyin' out of sight
And you know I can't come with you
I'll always be scared of heights
Scared of heights

I wish I never knew how great it feels up in the air
Wish I never got to feel the wind blow through my hair
Well in my dreams you'll always be
Flyin' high along with me
In my dreams I'll always feel that I can let go

You lift me up into the sky
Feels like I can fly
I'm never gonna die
And I almost made it but not quite
Now you're flyin' out of sight
And I know I can't come with you
Cause I'll always be scared of heights
Cause I'll always be scared of heights

My InterpretationWhen I first heard this song it made me cry because I felt every lyric relate to me. So he begins by saying he has always been practical, but out of the blue, here's this person that makes him let go of his normal self. The chorus goes to say that this person makes him feel like he can fly and is never gonna die. He is almost with this person entirely, but now that person is flying out of sight, living their own life without him just fine, and he can't be with him/her. (most likely a her in his case) The second verse says he never thought he'd meet someone who'd change him like that. The bridge near the end, or third verse, says that he wished he never knew how amazing and free this person made him feel, because now they've flown out of sight, and he will never be with that person.
