"All I Want" as written by James Oliver Richard Flannigan, Stephen Joseph Garrigan, Mark Daniel Prendergast and Vincent Thomas May....
All I want is nothing more
To hear you knocking at my door
'Cause if I could see your face once more
I could die as a happy man I'm sure

When you said your last goodbye
I died a little bit inside
I lay in tears in bed all night
Alone without you by my side

But If you loved me
Why did you leave me

Take my body
Take my body
All I want is
All I need is
To find somebody
I'll find somebody

Ooh oh
Ooh oh
Ooh oh
Ooh oh

'Cause you brought out the best of me
A part of me I'd never seen
You took my soul wiped it clean
Our love was made for movie screens

But If you loved me
Why did you leave me
Take my body
Take my body
All I want is
All I need is
To find somebody
I'll find somebody

Ooh oh
Ooh oh
Ooh oh
Ooh oh
Ooh ah
Ooh oh

Ooh, if you loved me
Why did you leave me
Take my body
Take my body
All I want is
All I need is
To find somebody
I'll find somebody

Like you, ooh

My Opinionthis song is stunning. it's so beautiful because it's so simple. we all want to ask that one question, but it'll hurt too much, or we're too scared to hear the answer. "but if you loved me, why'd you leave me?" this song is fantastic

My InterpretationI understand this song not just as a simple post-break up song, but more like song when the beloved one is gone for good. I find it more from the way of singing rather than lyrics but the words as well. They are singing about a wish to see the face once more and if the person is alive, no matter where he/she lives, it's possible to meet again. Also, saying "But If you loved me,
Why'd you leave me?" sounds like an accusation "how could you left me here alone?". And the last argument is about the line "Take my body", it's asking to take the body to the place the love is, because the soul and mind are already there.

My InterpretationI think it could be taken either way. I'm sure they wanted it to apply broadly to any sort of loss. Sometimes a break-up can seem just as devastating and permanent as the death of a loved one. Either way, it is a beautiful song with plenty of emotion.

Song FactMark Prendergast of Kodaline! said the meaning of this song is:
MP: It’s a song about that lonely place after a break-up, feeling lost.

General CommentNot going to lie, I cried hard the first time I heard this song. Very true that in a break up it feels like a death. As simple as this song is, it perfectly portrays the strong emotion and desires that follow a painful breakup. His voice carries his feelings so beautifully.

General Comment"So you brought out the best of me
A part of me I've never seen
You took my soul and wiped it clean
Our love was made for movie screens"

It's a great feeling to have someone bring out the best in yourself, someone you didn't even know existed. This verse describes exactly what I felt after a tough breakup. I felt as if my life was the greatest and most passionate during that relationship.

You really don't know what you have until it's gone.

    Happy listening,

My InterpretationSuch a sad and beautiful song~

To me, this song can mean two things. A failed relationship. Or a failed family bond.

I'm pretty sure that the 'failed relationship' thing is so overused, so I'm going to go with the failed family bond.

"All I want is nothing more
To hear you knocking at my door"- The young boy wants his mother or father back.

"Cause If I could see your face once more
I would die as a happy man I'm sure"- If the young boy could see their face one last time, he'd be elated.

"When you said you last goodbye
I died a little bit inside"- When they walked out the door and left him, the young boy was upset.

"I lay in tears in bed at night
Alone without you by my side"- The young boy cries himself to sleep and wishes for the comfort of his parent again.

    "But if you loved me
Why'd you leave me?"- The boy wonders that if they loved him like they said or expressed, then why did they leave him behind?

    "Take my body
Take my body"- Ehh... I don't know how to put this line...

    "All I want is
    All I need is
    To find somebody
I'll find somebody"- The boy wants and needs somebody to take away his pain (like a new parent) and that he's sure he'll find the one.

"Cause you brought out the best in me
A part of me I'd never seen"-When they were around, the boy was a whole new other person he never thought he was.

"You took my soul wiped it clean
our love was made for movie screens"- The boy is saying that their bond deserved to be seen by others.

And the rest of the song is kind of repeating itself but you know what I mean.

My OpinionI was thinking about that part after first chorus (and then in the end), maybe I am paranoid, but it sounds like he sings "you are home" or "you are whole"

General CommentThis song is saying that he cannot live without his love. The lyric "But if you loved me, why'd you leave me" gets me every time because this song was in The Fault In Our Stars and it describes it perfectly. Hazel and Agustus were in love, and will always be in love. She missed him dearly. She missed seeing his face and hearing his voice but she knew she'd see him again soon.

General CommentWell, with this song being on the TFIOS soundtrack and all, I interpret it between Hazel and Augustus.
"you brought out the best of me
A part of me I've never seen"
In this lyric it's saying how Augustus showed a side of Hazel that she hasn't seen. Her mother in the book even said so. Hazel never wanted to be a girly-girl who obsesses with how she looks and what-not but with Augustus, she can be this girl and she is.
    "But If you loved me
    Why'd you leave me?
    Take my body"
Hazel admitts in the beginning of TFIOS that her best friends were her parents and Peter Van Houten, so she doesn't have that many people in her life. But she has Augustus so when he ****SPOILER**** passes away, Hazel is devastated. She doesn't understand why he had to go. He used to be cancer-free, but as they know too well, the world is not a wish-granting factory. Her mind is already consumed by Augustus, he's a part of her, and it's her body that is not physically with him. Her mind and soul are.
    "All I want is
    All I need is
    To find somebody
    I'll find somebody like you"
This is like Hazel saying the she does want, she needs someone like Augustus in her life. Now that he filled the void in her and left, she needs someone else to refill that void. She knows that no one can ever be her Augustus again but she needs someone in her life so she can be herself like she was with Augustus.
"All I want is nothing more
To hear you knocking at my door
'Cause if I could see your face once more
I could die a happy man I'm sure"
Hazel feels that Augustus was aken from his life too early. When he was at his end, he was never himself. So she probably feels that her and Gus didn't have a proper goodbye then, (which is probably one reason for the eulogy scene) and she wants to know that he is ok and that he can still be himself and then she can be happy. Sure, oblivion is inevitable, but it deosn't matter how widely you were loved. It mattered how deeply.
"When you said your last goodbye
I died a little bit inside
I lay in tears in bed all night
Alone without you by my side"
It was Augustus who comforted Hazel but now he's gone and Hazel is left with no one who saw her other side. She feels alone now and all she can do is grieve.

Sorry this is so long, but TFIOS is amazing (the book and the movie) and inspiration. Some quotes were incorporated into the interpretaion.
