When I saw the flame I knew it couldn’t be the same
And then I tried a lot of things, like the part where Heather sings
But every time I’d listen back it always seemed there was a lack
Of a thing that could tie it all together

And at first there was a singing shortly after the beginning
But then we took it out and put the focus on the shout
And when it all was finished my flame it felt diminished
So I copied Andy Kaufman who I’d recently been viewing
And I wrote a lot of words with the intention of a spewing

In the end I’m probably just a bucket full of water
Or a giant storm of rain to smother all the pain
A relentless downpour that makes you wanna shut the door

My water is an invitation or a simple navigation
If you join the burning mess it’s almost like a test
To see if you can wait until the flame begins to dissipate
It all goes by so fast it doesn’t ever seem to last

And so you know
It wasn’t long before I (Peter) went looking for an evasion
Go ahead and cover me (him) up

Forget about the old story and write a new one
Either remove the pages or let them stay
If you tear them out make sure to build a fire
Otherwise dust eats your words when you’re not looking
The flame might hurt our eyes but at least we get to see it!
