"Return of the Thought Police" as written by and Richard Lansdowne West Karl Antony Groom....
From a room in a house on a hill
The world can change on the turn of a will
Ooh, there's no need to remind us
Ooh, you're killing us with kindness

On the left
On the left
On the left
A desolate horizon
On the right
On the right
On the right
A destiny is rising
We forget
We forget
We forget
The signs and implications
We deny
We deny
We deny
Our final condemnation

From the dust of oppression and foes
We have risen from our chains
Now the rust of complacency grows
As we give it all away
How did our conscience get so seared
That we could all stand by
As victory disappears before your eyes?

We can fight against corruption
We can stand for what is true
But we fall when we surrender
To the corporation view
And our faith can only offer
What we faithfully pursue
I promise you, I promise you

On the left
On the left
On the left
Apostasy has spoken
On the right
On the right
On the right
Our promises are broken

All the things we believe in and know
Fall like targets in a war
All the thoughts we were thinking long ago
Have become unthinkable
How did our conscience get so seared
That we could all stand by
As history disappears before your eyes?

We can fight against corruption
We can stand for what is true
But we fall when we surrender
To the corporation view
And our faith can only offer
What we faithfully pursue
I promise you, I promise you

It's a silent revolution as so thoughtfully
We're persuaded 'til we're crushed and jaded
Feigning ignorance, faking innocence
To belie our inner voice
They shoot us with ideology, kill with policy,
So protection overrides objection
Contemplation a violation
'Til the memory of freedom is gone
'Til the memory of freedom is gone

We can fight against corruption
We can stand for what is true
But we fall when we surrender
To the corporation view
And our faith can only offer
What we faithfully pursue
I promise you, I promise you

We can fight against corruption
We can stand for what is true
But we fall when we surrender
To the corporation view
And our faith can only offer
What we faithfully pursue
I promise you, I promise you

My InterpretationThis song is basically about the current state of the UK government and politics, particularly under David Cameron.

"From a room in a house on a hill
The world can change on the turn of a will
Ooh, there's no need to remind us
Ooh, you're killing us with kindness"

What we were used to is changing rapidly. The Conservative coalition government dress up their changes which are ruining peoples' lives in the language of kindness, fairness and compassion. The exact opposite of what they are.

"On the left On the left On the left
    A desolate horizon
On the right On the right On the right
    A destiny is rising"

This is about Labour and Conservative and the left/right wing in general. The left is in a state of defeat with not much hope of resurgence, Labour and the Liberal Democrats sold out to the right-wing and other left wing groups/people are demonized or ignored by the media so there's no representation, therefore a "desolate horizon." All the while the right-wing is going from strength to strength and this is just the beginning of the right-wing plans of domination, the actual goal is not reached yet but there is nothing so far to stop them from reaching their "destiny".

"We forget We forget We forget
    The signs and implications
We deny We deny We deny
    Our final condemnation"

This about the population, we have the advantage of history to learn from but we are about to make the same mistakes. Society, led by the government and media are vilifying certain groups; the poor and especially the disabled poor but everyone else is either happy about it or pretends the persecution does not exist. The last two parts can allude it to the famous "First they came" speech. By being ignorant this will lead to everyone to put a nail in their own coffin.

"From the dust of oppression and foes
We have risen from our chains
Now the rust of complacency grows
As we give it all away
How did our conscience get so seared
That we could all stand by
As victory disappears before your eyes?"

This is about the social security state and other freedoms won after World War II and how the population are largely, just allowing the destruction of it all to happen without serious confrontation or a fight. The result of which means society has willingly chained itself into its own prison.

    "We can fight against corruption
We can stand for what is true
But we fall when we surrender
    To the corporation view
And our faith can only offer
    What we faithfully pursue
I promise you, I promise you"

The choice is either to fight for everything or become slaves to the corporations. (A Corvee workforce is currently given freely from the state to corporate companies and fake corporate charities.)

"On the left On the left On the left
    Apostasy has spoken
On the right On the right On the right
    Our promises are broken"

Like above, the first part is about Labour and others like them, who have abandoned the principles of the left wing. Most likely refers to Tony Blair and his successors and how the Liberal Democrats betrayed their voters. The second part is Conservatives and Liberal Democrats who lied about everything prior to the general election 2010. (Most notable is the NHS for Conservatives and tuition fees for Lib Dems.)

"All the things we believe in and know
Fall like targets in a war
All the thoughts we were thinking long ago
    Have become unthinkable
How did our conscience get so seared
That we could all stand by
As history disappears before your eyes?"

Back to the population, again about the rights won after World War II, our beliefs at was considered a public good is being trashed and torn apart even by those who gain from them and would suffer from the destruction of them. Everyone is just watching as everything that brought us prosperity is being thrown away. Also the way the population no longer cares about society leading to a selfish dog-eat-dog world.

"It's a silent revolution as so thoughtfully
We're persuaded 'til we're crushed and jaded"

The right-wing revolution has and is being done slowly via the back door instead of an all out attack on people. The victims of the state are bullied and crushed until they are apathetic enough not to bother with politics any more.

    "Feigning ignorance, faking innocence
    To belie our inner voice"

People pretending to ignorant or a victim themselves when they are not, they have been taught to betray what is good for their own self.

"They shoot us with ideology, kill with policy,
    So protection overrides objection
    Contemplation a violation"

The Conservative coalition government's policies are rooted in the ideology that greed is good. It doesn't matter that they do not work, the ideology they believe in, is all that matters and their policies therefore are leading to deaths or will do as they get worse and worse. Could be referring to the treatment of groups such as the disabled who are thrown off of their benefits by ATOS (an IT corporation) and are dying in high numbers silently, due to stress aggravating their illnesses or through suicide.

Protection part is about the increase use of anti-terror and crime legislation to spy on us for our own good.

Contemplation line is about how the Conservative government is not bothering to think and debate the flaws about any of their policies, they just push them through without any care what so ever.

"'Til the memory of freedom is gone
'Til the memory of freedom is gone"

The end game of all this... if the right-wing elites get their way is for the people to be enslaved to them, to forget the meaning of freedom and what people in the past fought for, for us. Think about the increasing use of "liberal", especially in the USA, as a negative and derogative word. Classically and in simple meaning, liberty and liberal mean freedom so to be trained to hate liberals and liberty means you are being trained to forget and reject your own freedom.
