Ever wonder 'bout what he's doing
How it all turned to lies?
Sometimes I think that it's better
To never ask why

Where there is desire, there is gonna be a flame
Where there is a flame, someone's bound to get burned
But just because it burns, doesn't mean you're gonna die
You gotta get up and try, try, try
Gotta get up and try, try, try
You gotta get up and try, try, try

(Eh, eh, eh)

Funny how the heart can be deceiving
More than just a couple times
Why do we fall in love so easy
Even when it's not right?

Where there is desire, there is gonna be a flame
Where there is a flame, someone's bound to get burned
But just because it burns, doesn't mean you're gonna die
You gotta get up and try, try, try
Gotta get up and try, try, try
You gotta get up and try, try, try

Ever worried that it might be ruined
And does it make you wanna cry?
When you're out there doing what you're doing
Are you just getting by?
Tell me, are you just getting by, by, by?

Where there is desire, there is gonna be a flame
Where there is a flame, someone's bound to get burned
But just because it burns, doesn't mean you're gonna die
You gotta get up and try, try, try
Gotta get up and try, try, try
You gotta get up and try, try, try
Gotta get up and try, try, try
Gotta get up and try, try, try
You gotta get up and try, try, try
Gotta get up and try, try, try

You gotta get up and try, try, try
Gotta get up and try, try, try

    My Interpretation

I don't think this song is about a struggling relationship.

The subject is already alone, the relationship is already over.. that's why the opening line suggests separation and the chorus says "doesn't mean YOU'RE going to die". Along with her confirmation that it might not have been right to begin with. There's nothing worth clinging on to in this song except herself!

The song is about being left alone and hurt, and the feelings that follow, you have to rediscover your will to continue and how to hold your head high in the face of nothingness. It is about personal affirmation. When she sings "ever think it's ruined" - she isn't referring to a relationship but maybe her heart, her ability to love, etc... anyone who has suffered a broken heart should relate very easily to this song as obviously Pink is very accessible pop music.

LOVE P!nk. (Hate that she cannot be "searched" for by the correct spelling of her name on this site, though.) She is perhaps my favorite female pop artist for her spunk; creativity; and individualism. With her, I get the feeling she is genuine. She sings specific songs from the heart, not for ratings; they touch the soul of those who may be outside the norm (or at least feel they are outside the norm). She appears to "get" them...to understand what they are going through internally.

I love this track. It's about moving on after a breakup, and it sounds as though it's about a long-term marriage, engagement, etc. For me, it's about a long-term marriage that ended by choice, but the ending was nevertheless sad. When you have children, you have regrets for how your actions impact them, for they are always the victims regardless of how amicable a divorce/ending was.

When you have little interest in dating and starting over with someone new, you have to push yourself. Everyone tells you to date and seek company of the opposite sex, but it's a chore. Nobody wants to get burned again or bored again. It's that risk that is either scary or uninteresting.

P!nk's song resonates because it motivates the listener to let go of the past and move on; it's been over 3 years for me and I need to move on, although most days I have plenty to do with a career; children; and friends. But there will come a time when it will be nice to have a partner for fun and laughs and dinners and dancing. P!nk's song says to trust in yourself and "go for it."

"Gotta get up and try, try, try" because eventually work and children will not be enough, and it's just possible while you were busy "working," you missed out on a great guy or girl who would have made the perfect partner. I love P!nk's songs, especially this one. It hits home.

    My Interpretation

Ever wonder about what he's doing? How it all turned to lies?
Sometimes I think that it's better to never ask why.

MY interpretation: Whether he's there physically or not, there's not much communication or involvement between the two of you. It feels like everything you thought was said and done in love turned out to be a betrayal. Guarding your heart by hiding the truth is saying it will hurt if I ask why, and do I really want to know why? Do I want to know the truth, or do I just live in my own world? Fear, confusion, hurt...the two are seperating - unable to communicate, maybe hurt and fighting, or a betrayal. In your own mind, you can justify what you want to believe about the situation. Sometimes you fear that it's harder to confront it head on.

Where there is desire, there is gonna be a flame. Where there is a flame, someone's bound to get burned. But just because it burns - Doesn't mean you're gonna die. You gotta get up and try, and try, and try. You gotta get up and try, and try, and try.
You gotta get up and try, and try, and try.

MY interpretation: I actually see this as a double meaning. The first being, that if you got desire for the person of the two, then there's always a flame. That flame doesn't have to be big, and it can be super small but it'll always be there. And when you got that flame, someone's going to get hurt at one point or another. People don't like to hurt, and sometimes the hurt burns cause the betrayal is so harsh. You aren't gonna die from being hurt (even though the fear is the feeling that you feel like you're going to die or even if you feel that way) You remind yourself to find your strength, and then you get up and you keep trying and keep trying ... she doesn't say try, try, try...she said "and" try. Meaning it may seem like you're trying over and over, but you keep doing that for love. Also, it's a warning about letting something unhealthy and wrong into the relationship between two people. If you feel that desire...that flame is already turned on. Turn off the flame so you or the person you say you love or the "desire" does not get hurt, because it ultimately will. No one will die from it, although someone will feel like they are for a season, but you try for the love that matters and is real without stopping. Working on things is not without effort and you can't fix it overnight...so you keep trying, and trying, and trying for as long as it takes - work is required in a relationship. You're strong enough to try without stopping (that is love.)

Funny how the heart can be deceiving More than just a couple times Why do we fall in love so easy? Even when it's not right.

MY interpretation: I could easily go to the act of straying from your love to someone else. To let the heart deceive you into telling you that you're in love with someone else. You know it's not right, but you keep falling into that deception. BUT since this is MY interpretation - When you love someone and you're out of the in love honeymoon phase and things start to require work or things are starting to get rough. It's easy to be deceived that it's not love, or that wasn't meant to be, or it was wrong. You can be deceived that you are falling in love with something or someone or deceived it's not love at all ... it all leads you away from the person you love. You know it's not right, but you give in to all the overwhelming feelings (the sense of falling in love all over again...you know how some people talk about moving on to different things because they can't get past the initial stage of falling in love and how strong and good it feels..I can't say I fully understand it, but there are some that claim to have this.) It doesn't have to be a person when you're in a relationship. It felt like a dream, and now you want to rewind it and experience it again but you don't wanna work on doing it with the person you love...you feel you gotta get it through something else other than that person. That or you're just easily tempted to go the easy route to find that passion. Example: You're fighting all the time, and you don't seem to be making progress getting to where you want to be with your love. Ever said, "this should be easier?" It's easy to be deceived by negative thoughts and the grass is greener idea, which can lead you to believe you are not in love and cause you to keep repeating these actions and deeds.

MY interpretation: Reminder of the theme of what is real and what you should do. You love them, and you're strong enough to hang in there and try to fix things and make it right. In a marriage, you have vowed to not give up on it and to sacrifice and hang in even when it looks impossible. If you've truly fallen in love with someone once...you without a doubt can do it again despite almost anything. You keep trying (should there an end to that?) Even in a necessary seperation, you still have the right to fight and try and fix and mend and change.

Ever worry that it might be ruined? And does it make you wanna cry? When you're out there doin' what you're doin' Are you just getting by by by

MY interpretation: The relationship is a mess. You think it's damaged. You think it was wrong, or you or they have ruined it by what you or they have done. Is your heart still soft enough that it makes you wanna cry? You're trying to go about life and not think about it or worry about it or leave it behind, but are you just getting by when it's not really as fulfilling as if you would stop and turn around and go back to see if you can fix the ruin, stop the hurt, and feel so much better than just getting by? You could get through it and make that relationship better than it's ever been. You can have more love than you ever imagined and you can work at it to keep those in love dream feelings. Or you can just have closure to the relationship, so that you can heal instead of wondering and hurting because you didn't address it by trying. There isn't much of a need for interpretation to this set.

You gotta get up and try, and try, and try. You gotta get up and try, and try, and try. You gotta get up and try, and try, and try. You gotta get up and try, and try, and try.

I think she's reminded you what you gotta do ... be strong, try, keep trying without deadline.

I really think its about someone who keeps falling in love and getting burned multiple times and that even though he/she has had bad experience with love, they still need to get up and TRY. Also I agree with the above poster that it could be someone who is maybe in a marriage where they feel they are falling out of love and might be starting to stray to a new "flame".....where someone is "bound to get burned". I love the song and she gave an excellent performance at the AMA's. Bravo!

    My Opinion

To be honest, the song can speak for itself. Especially the chorus.

"Where there is desire, there's gonna be a flame", clearly states that if there is a want, or feeling or really just desire too there is bound to be chances of things going bad.

"And where there is a flame, someone bound burn", and so when something goes bad someone's bound to get hurt.

"but just because it burns, doesn't mean you're gonna die", well just because it hurts and everything is against you doesn't mean you're gonna die.

"YOU JUST GOT TO GET UP AND TRY"

To song to me, actually tells a story.

About a girl loving this guy who's also a good friend of hers, but he doesn't acknowledge it. Or maybe he has a girlfriend. And she wonders why he doesn't but sometimes knowing is not always good. But she desires for his love and but too bad she got hurt instead but instead of dwelling in pain, she gets up and try again or try to move on.

Second verse, to me it's super cute. Really, funny how the heart can be deceiving. Even though you know with full conviction, you'r love for that certain someone can't be return you love them anyway even though its not right.

Bridge, sounds like she's worried her relationship with that guy might be ruined if she confess. So she just do what she does best and now she's just getting by....

    My Interpretation

I can relate to this song a lot. I interpret it as the aftermath of breakup from a significant other. In the beginning, she is wondering what is he doing...which I believe is only natural after a breakup with someone whom you had loved. She reflects on the relationship by saying "how it all turned to lies I think that its better to never ask why". I related it to how at the end I was reflecting on our relationship and reflecting on how my ex he kept lying about things that eventually hurt me, but in the end I realized that sometimes its better to not question about what happened in the past and to just let go and move on.

The next verse "where there is desire.." is explaining how when there is something really good like desire and passion in a relationship there is also something strongly negative like getting hurt. But she reassures herself that, that doesn't mean you can't recover. The message is strong, " you gotta get up and try and try and try", meaning you just have to put yourself together and try to live the beautiful life you have.

"Ever worried that it might be ruined..." is about the fear about loving someone and it getting ruined again. However, Pink explains that of course theres always that chance but repeats "where there is desire" to say that if it ever happens you just need to pick yourself up again and try and try to move on.

    My Opinion

Beautiful, motivational song. It's about struggling for somebody's love and care. Fighting the obstacles which distance you from the person you desire, preparing for the worse and expecting the best.

"Ever wonder 'bout what he's doing How it's all turned to lies Sometimes I think that it's better, To never ask why" - One of the lovers betrayed the other one's trust or stopped trying and struggling for their love. The other, betrayed lover is disappointed and wonders how could it all the love go wrong.

"Where there is desire, there is gonna be a flame Where there is a flame, someone's bound to get burned But just because it burns, doesn't mean your gonna die You gotta get up and try, and try, and try Gotta get up and try, and try, and try You gotta get up and try, and try, and try" - They both are trying to fix their relationship, but the betrayed partner is thinking about giving up and is scared of being hurt again. Still,he/she has to fight because love is worth everything, and at times it's normal to get hurt, but if we fall,it only means that we'll rise up again.

Funny how the heart can be deceiving More than just a couple times Why do we fall in love so easy Even when it's not right - The wounded partner is still questioning should he/she move on or stay and fight for their love. He/she thinks that the relationship is a mistake and that his/her heart is deluding just like the other partner did.

Ever worry that it might be ruined And does it make you wanna cry When your out there doing what your doing Are you just getting by Tell me are you just getting by, by, by - Realizing that his thoughts are just making in harder, he/she forgives the partner but still is afraid that the relationship can be over and ruined at any time.

    It's probably wrong,but that's my opinion :)

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
