"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
When I was in the third grade, I thought that I was gay
'Cause I could draw, my uncle was, and I kept my room straight
I told my mom, tears rushing down my face
She's like, "Ben, you've loved girls since before pre-K"
Trippin', yeah, I guess she had a point, didn't she?
Bunch of stereotypes all in my head
I remember doing the math like "Yeah, I'm good at little league"
A pre-conceived idea of what it all meant
For those that like the same sex had the characteristics
The right-wing conservatives think it's a decision
And you can be cured with some treatment and religion
Man-made, rewiring of a pre-disposition
Playing God, aw nah, here we go
America the brave still fears what we don't know
And "God loves all his children" is somehow forgotten
But we paraphrase a book written thirty-five hundred years ago
I don't know
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love, my love, my love
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
If I was gay, I would think hip-hop hates me
Have you read the YouTube comments lately?
"Man, that's gay" gets dropped on the daily
We've become so numb to what we're sayin'
Our culture founded from oppression
Yet we don't have acceptance for 'em
Call each other faggots behind the keys of a message board
A word routed in hate, yet our genre still ignores it
And "gay" is synonymous with the lesser
It's the same hate that's caused wars from religion
Gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment
The same fight that lead people to walk-outs and sit-ins
It's human rights for everybody, there is no difference
Live on and be yourself
When I was at church, they taught me something else
If you preach hate at the service, those words aren't anointed
That holy water that you soak in has been poisoned
When everyone else is more comfortable remaining voiceless
Rather than fighting for humans that have had their rights stolen
I might not be the same, but that's not important
No freedom 'til we're equal, damn right I support it
I don't know
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love, my love, my love
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
We press play, don't press pause, progress, march on
With a veil over our eyes, we turn our back on the cause
'Til the day that my uncles can be united by law
When kids aren't walkin' 'round the hallway
Plagued by pain in their heart
A world so hateful, some would rather die than be who they are
And a certificate on paper isn't gonna solve it all
But it's a damn good place to start
No law's gonna change us, we have to change us
Whatever God you believe in, we come from the same one
Strip away the fear, underneath it's all the same love
About time that we raised up, sing
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love, my love, my love
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
People are so afraid and hate what the can not understand. But if people would open their minds to new things, then they may have the chance to at least try to understand why people do what they do. Being gay, owning a gun, coming from a different country, all these people are the same, nothing is different but our beliefs. There's is one common thing that we all share, we all are human and deserve to live the way we want to.. When I first heard this song, I nearly died. The goose bumps i had where strikingly noticable. Seeing the video made me cry. This song has not only good lyrics and meaning but an amazing beat and I give Macklemore and others the credit to keep making amazing songs!
I think every gay and lesbian should get they license to carry, cuz walkin' around in a world where niggaz will jump you and hicks will Bible thump you is just dumb and unnecessary, if we got the right to protect ourselves we should use it, in the face of people who twist it and use it to be abusive.

We ain't never gunna have peace or genuine respect until we pop a cap inna basher or slice a bigot's neck. It's war, we're constantly innit, in the middle of a world that labels us as sinners and degenerates, dehumanized soul-less objects - easy to manipulate, easier to kill - thinkin' that gay blood turns into AIDS blood as soon as it's been spilled. Thinkin' that a faggot is weak and woman-like, while a dyke is man strong. Like fags don't come in buff packages or is too afraid to aim a sawed-off. I wanna squash these stereotype fallacies, Westboro Baptists say we "beasts" I wanna show 'em just how beast we can be when we pushed to our mental extremities. Grab that exacto and scoop the eyeballs out the eyeholes out the eye holes of these conservative Christian assholes.
this is in response to the response on this original comment:
i agree that all homosexuals should have the same rights
but arent you being hypocrytical by hating christians so much when you are doing the same thing that SOME of them are: hating someone because they have different views and opinions. being a christian, i dont believe in the alll the things it was founded on, but in this song he does not say that all churches preach hate. mine has never, but sure some people may be against gays, and i disagree with that but i will admit to the fact that by me hating them is the same as them hating gays: disliking someone becuase their views are different. but i hate the fact that peopel are against gays but i know that i although it is not as bad, it is quite similar and i think you are targeting christians as much as people aqgainst gays are targeting gays.
