Oh shit!

I'm squattin down down baby,
outhouse in a rainstorm
half moon baby

gotta go ya gotta go
Chevy Chevy pickup truck
parked outside my house
rebel flag inside my truck
cause I'm from the south

I'm squattin down down baby,
outhouse in a rainstorm
half moon baby

Corn cob cleans me time to go
Lynyrd Skynyrd fuckin rocks
listen to it now
axe handle inside my truck
smack you in the mouth
well you can find me
four wheel drivin through the mud
smokin big buds
gettin buzzed
I'm drunk, sleepin with my cuz
chewin cudd
huntin bugs like elmer fudd
at the pub gettin grub
eatin wings and drinkin bud
it's all because I just cashed my welfare check
just got off probation
Redneck liberation
I'm home with my ankle bracelet
I must be patient, frustration
no parole violations
cause if I do I'll go back to the slammer

I'm livin in a trailer
double wide
homemade tattoo says "White Pride"
wad of chew in my jaw
Love my tapes of Tim McGraw
Wear tight jeans ya'll
at night I turn on hee-haw
I'm from the hills of Alabama
I ain't crap like MC Hammer
My grandma beats my ass when I'm cocky
just like Rocky, scratch my jockey
player hockey, drink a 12 pack ol' Milwaukee
beat my wife until she cries
I been on cops 17 times.

I'm squattin down down baby,
outhouse in a rainstorm
half moon baby

gotta go ya gotta go
Chevy Chevy pickup truck
parked outside my house

Jack Daniels inside my cup
pass it to me now

I'm squattin down down baby,
outhouse in a rainstorm
half moon baby

Corn cob cleans me time to go
Lynyrd Skynyrd fuckin rocks
listen to it now
axe handle inside my truck
smack you in the mouth

Made of cotton
Dixie has not been forgotten
half my teeth are rotten
daddy beat me so I shot him
hey mee-maw
you free cause I killed my pee-paw
see ya'll, do ya like my Dungaree's ya'll
Hee-haw
Got rabbit ears on my TV ya'll, gee ya'll
love to crank up my A/C ya'll

Pazellias, hide the pot plants behind my trailer
a failure, a velvet picture of Jesus, he's my Savior
hazy, drink too much and I go crazy, I'm lazy
cause thats how momma raised me, praised me
cause I bailed out of the slammer
did time back up in Memphis
killed a prostitute in Texarkana
Incest, learned the tongue kiss from my nasty grandma, grandpa
yea that dude was in the KKK back in Tampa
kickin ass with redneck grandma
smokin marijuana, growin lots of hydrogauna

I'm squattin down down baby,
outhouse in a rainstorm
half moon baby

gotta go ya gotta go
Chevy Chevy pickup truck
parked outside my house

Jack Daniels inside my cup
pass it to me now

I'm squattin down down baby,
outhouse in a rainstorm
half moon baby

Corn cob cleans me time to go
Lynyrd Skynyrd fuckin rocks
listen to it now
axe handle inside my truck
smack you in the mouth

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
