"Guardian" as written by Alanis Nadine Morissette and Guy Sigsworth....
You, you who smiled when you’re in pain
You who soldiered through the profane
They were distracted and shut down

So why, why would you talk to me at all
Such words were dishonorable and in vain
Their promise as solid as a fog

And where was your watchman then

I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian
I’ll be your warrior of care, your first warden
I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand
The greatest honor of all as your guardian

You, you in the chaos feigning sane
You who has pushed beyond what’s humane
Them as the ghostly tumbleweed

And where was your watchman then

I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian
I’ll be your warrior of care, your first warden
I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand
The greatest honor of all as your guardian

Now no more smiling mid crest fall
No more managing unmanageables
No more holding still in the hailstorm

Now enter your watch woman

I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian
I’ll be your warrior of care, your first warden
I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand
The greatest honor of all as your guardian

My InterpretationI think the song is about someone who's been through a lot of stuff to deal with (like abuse). The part about being a guardian could mean that someone cares enough to watch over and help. I think the watchwoman part is about learning how to take care of yourself and look after yourself.

General CommentShe said this in a video:

"So this song, really speaks to the guardianship and the protection that I feel toward my own son, and frankly, toward all the people whom I love. I get very protective within my loyalty to those whom I love."

General CommentI will take care of YOU who has been through so much that THEY have put you through.

I'm made to think of an adoptive or foster parent speaking to an adopted or foster child who has been abused or neglected.

Song MeaningIn a video Alanis said the inspiration was the parenting part of her self and how she treats her inner child. :o)

My InterpretationFor me this song reminds me of a late friend of mine. It makes me feel as if SHE'S talking to me when I listen to this song, as if she's saying she'll be my guardian and my keeper. I guess it works both ways as well.

General CommentThis is my story, this is about my guardian towards identity. She always took care of me, and at the end, and she was also me all along.
