This song depicts a story about old friends catching up since they have seen each other from high school. The "Bruises" are mistakes that they each regret and they say "everybody loses we all got...
Haven't seen you since high school
Good to see you're still beautiful
Gravity has its solitude oh
Quite yet, I bet you're rich as hell

One that's five and one that's three
Been two years since he left me
Good to know that you got free
That town I know was keeping you down on your knees

These bruises make for better conversation
Loses the vibe that separates
It's good to let you in again
You're not alone in how you've been
Everybody loses, we all got bruises
We all got bruises

Have you seen him? Not in years
How about her? No but I hear
She's in Queens with the man of her dreams
Funny back then she said that about you

Caesura you'll never guess who I saw
Remember Johnny B remember him we were best friends, back to be
Let's do this soon again, ten years is that what it's been?
Can't believe how time flies by
Leaving you makes me wanna cry

These bruises make for better conversation
Loses the vibe that separates
It's good to let you in again
You're not alone in how you've been
Everybody loses, we all got bruises
We all got bruises

I would love to fix it all for you
I would love to fix you too
Please don't fix a thing whatever you do

These bruises make for better conversation
Loses the vibe that separates
It's good to know you've got a friend
That you remember now and then
Everybody loses

These bruises make for better conversation
Loses the vibe that separates
It's good to let you in again
You're not alone in how you've been
Everybody loses,everybody loses, everybody loses
We all got bruises, We all got bruises, We all got bruises

My InterpretationThis song specifically reaches an audience that have gone through bad relationships and have learned from them. Although life may throw curveballs at you and you feel as though you are broken, don't lose hope. Others you know have gone through the same types of trials their life that are quite similar to yours. Embrace life and know you are not alone. If you give it time, the bruises you have now will heal. In time, you will surely find someone who is far more worth your time because they feel your pain... ("I would love to fix it all for you/ I would love to fix you too...").
On the same note: It describes a couple rekindling lost love. One's first love is precious and innocent, but in most cases, it never lasts. People separate from their first love because they want to experience more of what life has to offer. After several breakups one starts to wonder and realize what it is they have been looking for in that significant other. Only after a few relationships that I began to realize that my first boyfriend five years back (freshman year of high school) epitomizes all the qualities I would ever want in a guy. I haven't spoke to him in five years and wonder what he's been up to.
There will always be good and bad times in your life. Don't lose hope in the future you have ahead. Just like yourself, everyone faces the same types of challenges. Never feel as though you are alone...

My InterpretationThis song is about two first loves that dated in high school. They obviously got separated or broke up in high school and dated other people but still loved one another from a distance. They run into each other ten years after high school and talk about where they are in life now and they remember how much they loved and still love each other. They song is saying everyone has bruises meaning everyone hurts. It has nothing to do with "bad relationships" like a prior comment. It's about when you love someone but you let them go. It's just like that quote that goes somewhere along the lines of "if you love someone let them go, if they don't come back they never were yours but if they do then they always were." Well something's were just always meant to be and some loves just always find their ways back to one another. Crazy how life and love can do those things.

Song Meaning"One that's five and one that's three"

    What does that mean?
I've been wanting to find out every time I hear it on the radio!

English is not my native language so I might be missing something very obvious I guess?
