"Drag My Body" as written by and Christopher James Wollard Charles Allen Ragan....
Well I got my heart up in a beautiful mess,
I should've known better when I took the risk,
To wreck myself and to gamble while broke,
Shaking something mental at a loss for the words I'd once known.
I traded two steps forward for three steps back,
To get to know the meaning of showing respect.
I found the pedestals and burned them down,
To kill my idols and to bury the thoughts underground.
I'm no longer deaf to the sounds.

I'm hardly feeling human anymore,
Enough to drag my body from the floor.

Well I got my head up in a critical mess,
Fighting like a demon in a shell I possess.
Gnashing my teeth and speaking in tongues,
Still shaking something mental at a loss for the words I'd once known.
Something's rattling my bones.

I'm hardly feeling human anymore,
Enough to drag my body from the floor.
I'm hardly feeling human anymore,
Enough to drag my body from the floor.

Stand to hold steady now,
Take a breath and somehow,
Take a step to begin again,
After all we can only do our best.

I'm hardly feeling human anymore,
Enough to drag my body from the floor.
I'm hardly feeling human anymore,
Enough to drag my body from the floor.

Stand and hold steady now.

General CommentIt's tough, strongly believing in something for so long, then being confronted with strong evidence against your beliefs. Generally, that's how I feel about this. Having people you look up to, eating up every word they say.. but one day, or through the course of weeks, months, years even.. you realize it was all for nothing.

Personally, it reminds me of how I was a "Neo-Conservative", Warhawk, Big Government Statist, politically and philosophically.. then several events made me reconsider.. it bugged me at first, but I consumed alternatives.. I'm happy to say I'm currently standing and holding steady.

General CommentThis is one of my all-time favorite songs. I think that the whole concept of 'hardly feeling human anymore' is applicable to nearly all situations; maybe you're confronting a belief or you've lost someone extremely close to you. The middle of the song shows the true struggle that is coping, or dealing, with the tragedy: "Gnashing my teeth and speaking in tongues; Still shaking something mental at a loss for the words I'd once known." To me, these lyrics remind me of an exorcist of some sort; someone trying to deal with a tragic change of some sort. As the song comes to an end, the motto is to "stand and hold steady now," meaning once you've been able to find that tiny glimpse of human-ness within yourself, you must hold on to it as tightly as possible and (metaphorically) hold yourself up right and remain steady. Absolutely brilliant.
