"A Long Time" as written by and Andrew M Cohen....
Oh, Henry was a renegade
Never liked to play it safe
One component at a time
There's got to be a better way
Oh people came from miles around
Searching for a steady job
Welcome to the Motor Town
Boomin' like an atom bomb

Oh, Henry was the end of the story,
Then everything went wrong
And we'll return it to its former glory
But it just takes so long

It's gonna take a long time
It's gonna take it but we'll make it one day
It's gonna take a long time
It's gonna take it but we'll make it one day

Oh, Barry had a record store
Started up a studio
Oh, West Grand Boulevard
Turned it into solid gold
Oh, people all around the world
Tunin' into radios
Welcome to the Motor Town
Buckle up 'cause here we go

Oh, Barry was the end of the story,
Then everything went wrong
And we'll return it to its former glory
But it just takes so long

It's gonna take a long time
It's gonna take it but we'll make it one day
It's gonna take a long time
It's gonna take it but we'll make it one day

Wherever we're going
It's gonna take it but we'll make it one day
Whatever we're doing
It's gonna take it but we'll make it one day
However you want it
It's gonna take it but we'll make it one day

Song MeaningThis song is about Detroit in it's more finer days.. Obviously Henry is the famous Henry Ford, owner of the first car brand in the world.

'Barry' is Berry Gordy, founder and owner of the Motown record label, the most successful label in USA.

The message of this song is for all the entrepreneurs: you can make something out of nothing. You just have to be different and DO IT.
However, things in Detroit nowadays look very different... The town became a ghost town, and the roaring engines from Ford moved to different locations and the joyful sounds from Motown moved to LA etc... Since Mayer Hawthorne is a Detroit-based artist, he tries to put Detroit in a better daylight. He tries to build up the once great north American city, but as he states, 'But it just takes so long'

Song MeaningIt's about Detroit. Motor City- Motown. Its rise through Henry Ford's pioneering mass production, its peak with Berry Gordy's Motown record label, and its subsequent decline.
