In my eyes, indisposed
In disguises no one knows
Hides the face, lies the snake
And the sun in my disgrace
Boiling heat, summer stench
'Neath the black the sky looks dead
Call my name through the cream
And I'll hear you scream again

Black hole sun, won't you come
And wash away the rain?
Black hole sun, won't you come?
Won't you come? Won't you come?

Stuttering, cold and damp
Steal the warm wind tired friend
Times are gone for honest men
And sometimes far too long for snakes
In my shoes, a walking sleep
And my youth I pray to keep
Heaven sent hell away
No one sings like you anymore

Black hole sun, won't you come
And wash away the rain?
Black hole sun, won't you come?
Won't you come?
Black hole sun, won't you come
And wash away the rain?
Black hole sun, won't you come?
Won't you come?

Black hole sun, black hole sun
Won't you come?
Black hole sun, black hole sun
Won't you come?
Black hole sun, black hole sun
Won't you come?
Black hole sun, black hole sun

Hang my head, drown my fear
'Til you all just disappear

Black hole sun, won't you come
And wash away the rain?
Black hole sun, won't you come?
Won't you come?
Black hole sun, won't you come
And wash away the rain?
Black hole sun, won't you come?
Won't you come?

Black hole sun, black hole sun
Won't you come?
Black hole sun, black hole sun
Won't you come?
Black hole sun, black hole sun
Won't you come?
Black hole sun, black hole sun
Won't you come?
Yeah
Come

Black hole sun, black hole sun

    My Interpretation

I never bought Chris Cornell saying it's just a random bunch of words. To me there was some meaning but as much as I tried I couldn't get it. So now, while finishing watching 'A Walk among the Tombstones' and listened to the lyrics again to see if they made any sense and this is what I got.

The chorus I feel "Blackhole Sun" is a Sun you want during dark times where you feel suffocated and strangled by everything around you falling apart. This I feel echoes the rest of the song and what that situations.

The sun in my disgrace is basically something that is keeping the person going and that involves living with some kind of pain but as much as it is difficult, as much as it is snake like betrayal, there is something about being in this darkness that you can get away with - which is where the cream is, and the sun and disgrace and how all this feels good but he still hears the scream and the pain that was encountered and felt during some dark period that the narrator went through and feels guilty for. The guilty and the regret is important when you consider the "indisposed" because it was something you didn't want to do but you had to do at the time.

Then we have the line about the warm wind tired friend, being a friend who has been through a dark period but the warm wind comes and brings some ease after fatigue of the stuttering, cold and damp which is the difficulty of dealing with the pain caused but whatever pain was caused all honesty was broken and still the snakes are around which people hoped would end.

To add to this, then there is the walking in my shoes part, that along with the heaven sent hell away and no one singing like you emulates the youth that is disappearing from the innocence lost and the difficult of coping the tragic circumstances although, the singing, the one person takes away the hell like heaven.

The final lyric part apart from the chorus is the drown my fear (sorrows) by hanging the head which is like a accepting the guilt and the difficulty that someone had done and then hoping that all the bad disappear as long as the narrator accepts the guilt and the difficulty he/she placed on others.

So ultimately the song is about hoping for a some light at the end of the tunnel whilst being in a difficult part of your life as you cope with the choices you made and the actions you were a part of which affected numerous people around you. So, you accept the "Blackhole" that you have created that is sucking in all the stars and all the good but you hope for some Sun that can take away the pain (rain) because you've at least accepted that you've done things that you're not really proud of.

So that's my view on it. I think this gels together. Yeah the lyrics are out there but the metaphors give a certain story that you can piece together something human that someone is going through.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
