"Little Shocks" as written by Nicholas Hodgson, Charles Richard Wilson, Nicholas Baines, James Rix and Andrew White....
I don't want much
I'm happy? with what I've got
On the second floor
I pass a ruffian on the stairs
What the driver saw
Ah through the letter box of number four
I don't have much
It will be deafening when I do

And all these little shocks I'll be riding my imaginary dynamo
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day but I can't
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day but I can't

Bless my heart
And everything will be explained
In the diaries
Especially the latter part
I'll be a somebody
I found an empty glass today at home
Give me ability
Turn up the pedal away from his hand

And all these little shocks I'll be riding my imaginary dynamo
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day but I can't
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day? but I can't
I wish I could have just a little bit more
Just a little bit more of your time
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day but I can't

I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day but I can't
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day but I can't
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day but I can't
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day but I can't

And all these little shocks I'll be riding my imaginary dynamo
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day but I can't
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day but I can't
I wish I could have just a little bit more, just a little bit more of your time
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day but I can't

General CommentThe song is about the writer and playwright Joe Orton and his lover (and murderer) Kenneth Halliwell, who killed Orton in 1967 out of a mixture of jealousy and frustration before also killing himself.
'The Ruffian on the Stair' is a play by Orton.
'What the Butler Saw' is also an Orton play.
The bodies were found by a chauffeur (driver) hired to drive Orton the day after the murder.
Halliwell left a suicide note in which he said that his reasons would be explained 'if you read the diaries - especially the latter part'.

General CommentThe lyrics according to the album's lyric booklet are:

    I don't want much
I'm happy with what I've got
    On the second floor
I passed the ruffian on the stair
    What the driver saw
Ah, through the letter box of number four
    I don't laugh much
It will be deafening when I do

And all these little shocks are deriding my imaginary dynamo

I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day, but I can't
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day, but I can't

    Cleanse my heart
    And everything will be explained
    In the diaries
    Especially the latter part
    I'll be a somebody
Upon my hectic last day in hell
    Give me ability
To knock the pen away from his hand

And all these little shocks are deriding my imaginary dynamo

I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day, but I can't
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day, but I can't
I wish I could have just a little bit more, just a little bit more of your time
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day, but I can't

    [Repeat x4]
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day, but I can't

And all these little shocks are deriding my imaginary dynamo

I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day, but I can't
I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day, but I can't
I wish I could have just a little bit more, just a little bit more

General CommentThanks Severai, I would have never thought of that!

There is a great movie, "Prick Up Your Ears", by Stephen Frears about Orton and Halliwell and their turbulent relationship. Highly recommended!
