What will it take
When will you see
The tears that you're hiding
Show underneath
It's easy to tell
I know you well
You're not fooling me

Cost the moment that you're feeling up, he brings you down
When everybody knows you're not so happy now
But you're beautiful, I'd show you, If you'd let me,
Can't you see I'm

I'm much better for you, I'm much better for you
Much better for you,
I don't wanna see you heading for a heart-break
I can't turn away
You're the one I wanna save
'Cause I'm better for you

What will it take
Why can't we be
If you're gonna gamble,
Bet it on me
How does it sound
I won't let you down
'Cause you know you got me, got me, try me

You know that every time you build it up, he tears it down
Don't you think you've had enough already now
Cause you're priceless, I'd show you, If you'd let me
Can't you see I'm

There's so much inside you just don't see
(I'll show you, I'll show you how good you are)
I can take where you need to be (with me)

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
