I tell you something isn't right
The way i'm feeling kept me up all night
I fix myself another drink
I guess that's crazy i need time to think
And all the good ones got away
All the good ones gone to waste
And I take another hit
And do I really get my joy stealing?
All the TV's hypnotised
All the loonies on the rise
And old man what I got to tell you
Tonight Ladies and Gentlemen
I roll the dice
Just gimmie that dice
It's been so hard working for no one
I roll the dice
Just gimmie the dice
Yeah Yeah
Yeah Yeah
Wakey wakey rise and shine
Put down your souvenirs I think it's time
We've been dead behind the eyes
Switching stations as our country dies
No matter what you do, you know
The world it keeps on turning
We never feel a thing
Come on and meet me at the Carnival
Tonight Ladies and Gentlemen
I roll the dice
Just gimmie that dice
It's been so hard working for no one
I roll the dice
Just gimmie that dice
Yeah Yeah
Yeah Yeah
No matter what you do, you know
The world it keeps on turning
We never feel a thing
The way i'm feeling kept me up all night
I fix myself another drink
I guess that's crazy i need time to think
And all the good ones got away
All the good ones gone to waste
And I take another hit
And do I really get my joy stealing?
All the TV's hypnotised
All the loonies on the rise
And old man what I got to tell you
Tonight Ladies and Gentlemen
I roll the dice
Just gimmie that dice
It's been so hard working for no one
I roll the dice
Just gimmie the dice
Yeah Yeah

Wakey wakey rise and shine
Put down your souvenirs I think it's time
We've been dead behind the eyes
Switching stations as our country dies
No matter what you do, you know
The world it keeps on turning
We never feel a thing
Come on and meet me at the Carnival

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
I don't think this song is about a relationship. It makes more sense if the something that isn't right from the first line is a reference to society. He's deeply bothered by what is wrong and self-medicates with alcohol, drugs, and TV. Rolling the dice is a reference to his attempts at finding a way to live in the world despite everything wrong.
For some reason I can relate so well to this song. To me the first stanza is about a girl who left a big impression on him and is not sure where to take it "I tell you something isn't right,The way i'm feeling kept me up all night" as he thinks he can do better but prefers not to "And all the good ones got away,All the good ones gone to waste". He decides to induce himself in drugs "And I take another hit" and he is getting taken over by this feeling, making him lose his mind "All the TV's hypnotised All the loonies on the rise"? The chorus is basically about letting fate decide for him "Tonight Ladies and Gentlemen,I roll the dice"and of all of this is a big strain on him "It's been so hard working for no one".Now he has to make the decision " Wakey wakey rise and shine,Put down your souvenirs I think it's time" after much time delberating "We've been dead behind the eyes"and he is ressuring himself that if it doesn't go to plan he can try again on perhaps someone else "No matter what you do, you know,The world it keeps on turning".
why does every single Kasabian song blow me away?
i think this is about England and somethig that isn't what it used to be in England. ("Switching stations as our country dies")
I think this song is about the contemplation of suicide. It explains that life is consuming and almost arbitrary. the lyrics "No matter what you do, you know The world it keeps on turning" reminds the listener of the insignificance of an individual. I would go as far to say the lyrics were changed from the original; "I roll the dice Just gimmie that dice" were changed from something like "I want to die, just give me that knife". If you read the lyrics taking that into account, there isn't a line that disproves it. If you listen to 'man of the world' by Fleetwood Mac(Peter Green)it shows a similar but uncensored portrayal of those feelings.
I can tell you with 100% certainty that the lyrics were never "I want to die" etc.
