"Ultima Esperanza" as written by and Amanda Palmer....
Downloading doves on your fancy computer
You're shooting for love in the dark
Hey boss, you've found her now go instant message
Her name is a pretty good start

Ultima sits in her bedroom in Texas
And waits for her hamsters to touch
She lost her legs in a car crash three years ago
She doesn't get around much

But she is hoping someday
Somebody will take her away

Now that you got her address you can send her
A matching attachment and face
Slick rhododendrons you make out of paper
With flowers that never lose shape

You have a video camera strapped
To your forehead in case she is true
Smiling, rewind as we die in slow motion

As if it's not happening to you

Don't be afraid of the dark ages darling
You may have to wait, your lover is coming
With mixes of Marlyn songs
And pictures she took at the throne
Knowing her name is enough, Ultima

Foxtrotting, globe trotting under your fingertips
Tapping for oil in vain
Surely you won't think to hold that against me
It's such an unusual name

Someone is hoping to find
Her limbs in an auction online
Knowing her name is enough
Ultima Esperanza, Ultima Esperanza

General CommentBasically about internet dating, I'm guessing.

General CommentI agree, there are some mentions of internet dating. But I think it's the darker, more obbsessive side of net dating. Oh, and Esperanza is Spanish for hope... I'm not sure if that impacts the meaning of the song... Maybe hoping that the person you think is dating over the net really loves you, or hoping that the person is really who they says they are?

General CommentI think the song is about net dating, but moreso having an internet crush that you really shouldnt, or not knowing what they look like. The ultimate hope is that they are who they say they are, and thus comes the name Ultima Esperanza.

General CommentI don't know much Spanish, but I think it means "Last Hope". This suggests that the people doing internet dating have been unsuccessful in other kinds of relationship and the net is their last chance of finding true love (so they think).

General Comment'now that you got her a dress you can send her

Sounds like the old tradition used by men coming over to another country to work for money and wanting a traditional bride from their own country. So they used to send home for their family to match them up with a girl, marry them by proxy while their bride remained in their country, then paid for the girl to come to where they are. Usually all they'd seen of the bride beforehand was a picture.

Perhaps reflecting a more modern version of the old tradition.

General CommentI also believe this song is about internet dating, and that maybe when you don't meet by being face to face, you're less likely to judge someone by outer appearances. I'm thinking this because of the 'She lost her legs in a car crash three years ago/She doesn't get around much' part. Like, she...lost her legs, yeah, and the 'she doesnt get around much' bit could refer to actually moving, or to - I'm thinking - making relationships, because some people can have a hard time accepting that sort of thing enough to make a real relationship and all.

General Commentdespite the fast pace, this sounds like a really sad song. the internet dating idea works, and basically i agree with what everyone's said. it remends me of me a bit.
