Do you think about
Everything you've been through?
You never thought you'd be so depressed
Are you wondering
Is it life or death?
Do you think that there's no one like you?

We are, we are, we are
We are the ones
We get knocked down
We get back up, and stand above the crowd
We are one
We are the ones
We get knocked down
We get back up, and stand above the crowd
We are one

The life I think about
Is so much better than this
I never thought I'd be stuck in this mess
I'm sick of wondering
Is it life or death?
I need to figure out who's behind me

We are, we are, we are
We are the ones
We get knocked down
We get back up, and stand above the crowd
We are one
We are the ones
We get knocked down
We get back up, and stand above the crowd
We are one

The life I think about
Is so much better than this
I never thought I'd be stuck in this mess
I'm sick of wondering
Is it life or death?

We are the ones
We get knocked down
We get back up, and stand above the crowd
We are one
We are the ones
We get knocked down
We get back up, and stand above the crowd
We are one

We stand above the crowd
We stand above the crowd
We stand above the crowd (crowd)
(We stand) we stand above the crowd
We stand above the crowd (we stand)
We stand above the crowd

(We are the ones) we stand above the crowd
(We get knocked down, get back up) we stand above the crowd
(We are the ones) we stand above the crowd
(We get knocked down, get back up) we stand above the crowd

We stand above the crowd
We stand above the crowd
We stand above the crowd

It's actually about being around heaps of people but you still feel like your the odd one out like you have an x on you.

It's for all the people that feel alone even when they have friends, family, people to talk to yet this depression clouds their vision so they can't see help that is being offered, i feel it's a very deep song and can relate to it in many ways.

Being a teen i do have mood swings, and have been diagnosed with chronic depression so it's easy to understand the "we get knocked down, we get back up, and we stand above the crowd." for me its the depression kicks in, i take my meds and get back into a better mood and sometimes i can feel like im on top of the world.

This song is about being singled out from the rest of the crowd. Being the one that has the bull's eye on their back.

Somehow with the title of the song, and even the whole album. I think it's a blanket statement for the Generation X crew. People in their later 20s and 30s. The whole album itself is very interesting... a great closing track to the album.

I love this song! I've had so many times where I felt completely alone and felt like I didn't exist... So I could really relate! It has a very anthemic feel, and it’s a great closer!

What phoenix said is very close to what Adam said. Well put.

I agree with Aussiestevo, it's mostly about being depressed and being singled out, feeling that you aren't noticed. Awesome song, one that I can really relate to. One X is seriously one of the best CDs I've bought, I wasted my money but it was so worth it! 3DG forever!

This song fits me perfectly, and im guessing very few of you know what its like to truely be alone. Yeah, i got friends, but they dont treat me equal, i go near em and they move away, yet they say their friends of mine. I classify them as enemies from now on. I have no one to look to, and no one to talk to. Besides, helps a sign of weakness. Anyway, on to my awesome translation, yeah, I got the X, the bullseye, the mistreatment. I think it shows the ones that are treated shitty early in life rise up later during the working years and rise up 'above the crowd' and become the greaters, looking down on old rivals.

I think it's about looking back on everything that happened in your life and realising you never meant to end up where you are, but at the same time realising that you rose and are better for it. fish n' chips Tineke

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
