So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
No sé cómo decirte
No sé cómo explicarte
Que aquí no hay remedio
De lo que siento yo
De lo que siento yo
La luna me dice una cosa
Las estrellas me dicen otra
Y la luz del día me canta
Esta triste canción
Los besos que me diste mi amor
Son los que me están matando
Ya las lagrimas me están secando
Con mi pistola y mi corazón
Y aquí siempre paso la vida con
La pistola y el corazón
No sé cómo amarte
No sé cómo abrazarte
Porque no se me deja
Este dolor que tengo yo
El dolor que tengo yo
Esta noche tan oscura con sus
Sombras tan tranquilos
Y el viento me sigue cantando
Esta humilde canción
Los besos que me diste mi amor
Son los que me están matando
Ya las lagrimas me están secando
Con mi pistola y mi corazón
Y aquí siempre paso la vida con
La pistola y el corazón
No sé cómo explicarte
Que aquí no hay remedio
De lo que siento yo
De lo que siento yo
La luna me dice una cosa
Las estrellas me dicen otra
Y la luz del día me canta
Esta triste canción
Los besos que me diste mi amor
Son los que me están matando
Ya las lagrimas me están secando
Con mi pistola y mi corazón
Y aquí siempre paso la vida con
La pistola y el corazón
No sé cómo amarte
No sé cómo abrazarte
Porque no se me deja
Este dolor que tengo yo
El dolor que tengo yo
Esta noche tan oscura con sus
Sombras tan tranquilos
Y el viento me sigue cantando
Esta humilde canción
Los besos que me diste mi amor
Son los que me están matando
Ya las lagrimas me están secando
Con mi pistola y mi corazón
Y aquí siempre paso la vida con
La pistola y el corazón

This is a song about a man who is about to commit suicide because his love left him. The English of the song is as follows:
I do not know how to tell you I do not know how to explain to you That here there is no remedy Of what I feel Of what I feel
The moon tells me one thing The stars tell me another And the light of day sings to me This sad song
The kisses that you gave me love are the ones who are killing me now tears me are drying up my gun and my heart and here always spend my life with gun and heart
do not know how to love you do not know how to hug Because not let me This pain I have I the I have pain
This dark night with its so quiet Shadows And the wind keeps singing to me This humble song
The kisses that you gave me my love Are the ones that are killing me And the tears are drying me With my gun and my heart And here I always spend my life with The gun and the heart. It's a sad song and I half expect to hear the mariachi cry in this song. This is a song that I love immensely and knew what he was saying even though I speak very little Spanish.
