In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.

This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
wow, i am amazed how this has no comments. this song has so much poetically meaning behind it. mishka is a real genius, and a very deep person. "but you are so happy with your plastic smile" this could mean that she is not happy at all, and just pulls out a fake smile all the time. or literally has a plastic smile (has had a lip job), telling us how superficial or what kind of person she is. "I give you my ocean songs and they go on for miles But all you wanted to do was walk the aisles of some shopping malls"
in general, i think he is basically telling her what he thinks about her, or that they are not good together, making her cry and run away every time. because she is beautiful ("Your legs so long, your smile so sweet, And you move gracefully down the street, Right in the time with the beat, Of my heart, yeah, Your eyes of fire, Your voice choir of angels, You're so beautiful, That I don't really know where I'm to start") but she is not the kind of person that could see the things the ways he sees them, that she could not observe the beauty of some certain things.
