S.L.S. 1

U.S.L.S. 1

U.S.L.S. 1
S.L.S. 1

U.S.L.S. 1

The moon shines bright in the desert night
The other side of a clear sunlight
The other side of a character
Comes out to play before the day

U.S.L.S. 1
U.S.L.S. 1

The devil follows up out his plans
He's makin' his work for those idle hands
And his neatly packaged bird has flown
This devil takes care of his own

U.S.L.S. 1
[?]

Clouds now greeting this aeroplane
As if tearing across the empty sky
When a bomb implant in the luggage hold
This devil takes care of his own

U.S.L.S. 1
U.S.L.S. 1

U.S.L.S. 1
U.S.L.S. 1

Song MeaningOn December 21, 1988 John Lydon and his wife Nora were due to catch Pan American World Airways' third daily scheduled transatlantic trip from London Heathrow Airport to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. Because of delays caused by Nora's packing, they arrived at the airport too late to catch the plane. The flight Lydon and his wife missed was the doomed Pan Am Flight 103, which was destroyed by a bomb whilst flying over Lockerbie in Scotland, killing all 243 passengers and 16 crew members on board. When they learned of what happened the couple looked at each other and almost collapsed. This dubby near-instrumental was written by Lydon as a message to the Lockerbie bomber, who would have blown him up but for their last-minute change of plan.

Song FactJohn Lydon quote from 1989: “It should be pronounced 'Useless One', it concerns your president. It's about a terrorist bomb on Air Force One. It poses the question, how would Mr. Bush feel if he knew? I don't write anything purely just for atmosphere, that would be boring. Things have to have a point to them."
