Simply Irresistible Lyrics
I like how people like to focus just on 3 of Robert Palmer's songs (At least in the US) and just talk about him being dead all the time.
Come on... where are the real fans who have actually heard great recordings like Sneaking Sally Through the Alley, You're Gonna Get What's Coming, I Dream of Wires and Some People Can Do What They Like?
My parents, sister, and 4 older brothers always tell me that when I was a newborn infant until I was around 3 years old... If I was crying, one of the only things that calmed me down was them dancing around crazily in the dining room with me in their arms to "Simply Irresistable" by Robert Palmer... FULL BLAST! I'm 18 now, and that story just cracks me up! Any trip they went on, any babysitter they used, they made sure that CD was around! It calmed me down NO FAIL. It couldn't just be any song, even if it was by Robert Palmer... it HAD to be Simply Irresistable. They even had to buy another copy of the CD eventually because we wore it out! Haha!
So is this song about true love or is the singer, as most do, once again talking about sex? "I'm backed against the wall" and "theres no telling where the money went", sould that refer to a hooker?
@saawanj "Up against the wall" is a saying that means "in a very bad position or situation." It's not a literal wall. "There's no telling where the money went" means he's so infatuated with this woman that he's spending all his money on her. It's definitely not about true love, but I don't think there's any reason to believe it's about prostitution. It's a bunch of clunky metaphors about how obsession with a woman makes a guy do crazy things.

She’s so fine there’s no tellin where the money went, “ refers to the relationship between Ben (Bugsy) Siegel and Virginia Hill. In 1944, Mr. Siegel obtained financing to build & operate the Flamingo Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. By the time the casino was opened on December 26, 1946, the project was $3,000,000 over budget and some believed that Mr. Siegel’s best gal, Virginia Hill, squeezed a couple million from the budget and dumped it into a Swiss bank account. Mr. Siegel paid the price in June 1947 in Beverley Hills and Ms. Hill later testified before a congressional subcommittee on ladies of the mob. Her testimony can be found on YouTube.
no one comments on rob palmer... how can this be permissible????? great song, great singer, shoulda made more stuff, ah.
Ah but hes dead.
It's simply irresistable.
Great very catchy song...R.P., R.I.P.
I think this song is a tongue in cheek song about the 'type' of woman a man might be interested in. Remember this was the late '80's and plastic surgery is all the rage--(I think that's where the 'money went.') and she's a 'craze you'd endorse,' and 'she used to look good but now I find her simply irresistable.' The video kind of goes in this direction, too, with all the look-a-like women in his band.
