I can't believe it, you of all things.
It's been a while, memories teem.
Some kind of anthem lingering.
Images settle internally.

Ribbons and detours meant nothing to me-
Swaying our sentiments, pulling our strings,
Tempting me softly, but killing our dream.
You said it's over, but maybe it's the same old thing.

I can't believe it, you of all things,
Coming in homage, devious needs.
Intimate outcries, weakening,
Tranquilize slowly inside of me.

Ribbons and detours meant nothing to me,
Swaying our sentiments, pulling our strings,
Tempting me softly, but killing our dream.
You said it's over, but maybe it's the same old thing.

I gave the softest parts, trumped by the darkest parts,
Whispered the tender parts, made of idealistic scenes.

Ribbons and detours meant nothing to me,
Swaying our sentiments, pulling our strings,
Tempting me softly, but killing our dream.
You said it's over, but maybe it's the same old thing.

It's the same old thing.
It's the same old thing.
It's the same old thing.

    My Interpretation

From my perspective, I see this song as.. Guy is in a relationship with a girl, then, there's another guy who she used to be with, they have a major history. Girl and Ex are reunited, and this is sung from the perspective of her current partner..

"I can't believe it, you of all things.

*-Girl is reunited with Ex, by surprise..

"It's been a while, memories teem. Some kind of anthem lingering. Images settle internally."

*-Self-explanatory, they haven't seen eachother in a long time, girl is thinking very deeply about this ex,and the memories they shared.

"Ribbons and detours meant nothing to me" Swaying our sentiments, pulling our strings"

*-Girls current boyfriend knew all along, about the ex.. he simply buried the negative thoughts, and worries, and chose not to think about it.

"Tempting me softly, but killing our dream. You said it's over, but maybe it's the same old thing."

*-The current guy in this story is being used as a distraction, to the girl's ex.. she's playing him, but leading him on as if there isn't anything still between her and her ex.

"I can't believe it, you of all things, Coming in homage, devious needs. Intimate outlies, weakening, Tranquilize slowly inside of me."

*-This is where the current guy starts to realize the truth, he breaks down..

"I gave the softest parts, trumped by the darkest parts, Whispered the tender parts, made of idealistic things."

*-Current guy gave it his all, despite his fears, treated her right..

"It's the same old thing. It's the same old thing. It's the same old thing."

    *-It's inevitable..

    General Comment

Whispered the tender parts, made of idealistic things.

Seems like that line is wrong. I think the current words is idealistic scenes. I could be wrong though.

It's a great song. The sound is relaxing, musically. It is vocally too, but not in terms of the lyrics. At least not for me which I have no problem with.

I found out about this band through Revenge when this song was playing at the end of the Control episode. That show, along with Buffy.....great way to discover new music. I can't tell you how many songs and artists I discovered through those shows.

    My Opinion

I get the feeling that this song is about a couple that just isn't able to make it work.

" I can't believe it, you of all things. It's been a while, memories teem. Some kind of anthem lingering. Images settle internally."

I think this is their first time seeing each other a while after splitting us. She's surprised to see him and the song that's playing in the background immediately takes her back to when they were happy together.

"Ribbons and detours meant nothing to me-- Swaying our sentiments, pulling our strings,"

Here she's describing part of their problem. They're so passionately in love that they're easily influenced and aren't really paying attention to the bigger picture.

"Tempting me softly, but killing our dream. You said it's over, but maybe it's the same old thing."

She desperately want to be with her partner but they both know that they can't be happy together. They keep trying to leave each other but they can't so it just keeps coming back to this.

"Coming in homage, devious needs. Intimate outcries, weakening, Tranquilize slowly inside of me."

Quite frankly I think this part is about their sex life. In mind of this it's pretty self-explanatory.

"I gave the softest parts, trumped by the darkest parts, Whispered the tender parts, made of idealistic things."

Here I think she's saying that she tried to only show him the good in her but it just caused more problems for them. They built their relationship on ideals.

The ends dramatically repeating how things will never change. They'll be stuck with the "Same old thing".

"It's been a while, memories teem Some kind of anthem lingering Images settle internally"

*gf is thinking of her ex and their memories

"Tempting me softly, but killing our dream "

    • she was tempted by the guy but by cheating, she killed all the miracle between she and her bf

    • the girl hopes there is still a chance, maybe it’s not the first time it’s about to be over, the boy might will forgive her this time, too

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

American Town

Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
