What can we do to make this worse?
Where can we lay down
a blanket of fallen leaves
Too thick too sweep?

Scatter dry heaves.
My stomach's turning.
Floorboards keep moving in
the direction of casualties.
No immunities,
At least that’s how it seems.

Don’t make a sound, it throws me off.
My center of gravity is lost.
Don’t fake alarms, don’t siren off,
Don’t make a sound, it throws me off.

Branches enclose
These walls won’t hold.
Don’t tell from the peril of
the roots of your family tree
Or let them see,
Cause it's buried too deep.

Don’t make a sound, it throws me off.
My center of gravity is lost.
Don’t fake alarms, don’t siren off,
Don’t make a sound, it throws me off.

If you only knew
Trying to do
Trying to do
Keep my head high
Remain upright
Remain upright
visualize
objects in sky
objects in sky

If you only knew
that this will lead us underground
they will face this underground
I will be there underground
waiting patient underground

She sways over to me, pointing overboard,
But I can’t see nothing.
She sways over to me, she’s still going on,
But I can’t hear anything.
She sways over to me, pointing overboard,
But I can’t see nothing.
She sways over to me, she’s still going on,
But I can’t hear anything.

Don’t make a sound, it throws me off
My center of gravity is lost.
Don’t fake alarms, don’t siren off
Don’t make a sound, it throws me off.

General CommentSilversun pickups makes some incredibly dreamy songs. This one make me feel like I'm dreaming but also there are lucid and incredibly aware moments, it's like a song that you would play after you've been seasick all day and trying to compose yourself in front of your loved other (feels like going on a cruise) and after all that energy spent being sick, falling asleep becomes so easy.

My InterpretationI think the song is about a bad relationship where only one party in it thinks it's bad. The narrator is oblivious to how bad it is, and is desperately trying to block out any signs that things could be going bad to keep up their own illusion that things are fine ("Don't make a sound/It throws me off"). The narrator is so deep in the relationship that they can't entertain the thought that things aren't what they should be. The end of the song is the narrator being told directly that things are wrong, but the narrator is now purposely avoiding the issue ("She sways over to me, pointing overboard,
But I can’t see nothing/She sways over to me, she’s still going on, But I can’t hear anything.") This one really spoke to me this morning as I sadly identified with the narrator.

General CommentThis is the one song that I feel was written for me. I always interpret this song to be about extreme anxiety.
The woman has extreme social anxiety that the guy tries to help her cope with, though he cannot truly understand what it is she is going through, which he expresses in saying "but I can't see anything". They are in a situation where they have to do something that she is extremely anxious about (I always interpret it as a family social gathering). When her anxiety reaches extreme levels, she becomes in a seasick like state of near insanity "swaying over pointing overboard" with any sound or movement being very significant where it would otherwise be unnoticed. She tends to make a big deal out of things that people without anxiety problems wouldn't think much of. So she keeps her head up and tries to hide her emotions, because if they knew they would not be able to understand, and possibly think she is insane. "If you only knew trying to do trying to do keep my head high remain upright remain upright".
This perfectly describes how I feel every single day that I walk out of my house. I am constantly on the verge of being crippled by social anxiety and literally stumbling my way through my life while trying to remain calm and give the appearance that I have everything together, when I really just want to disappear.
