My heart is a weapon of war
My voice is my weapon of choice

An eye for an eye,
a heart for a heart,
a soul for a soul.
We fight for the dream,
we fight to the death,
we fight for control.

For there is no such thing as justice,
all the best that we can hope for is revenge:
A hostile takeover,
an absolute rebellion to the end.
This is our battle cry
I’m giving you a head start,
you’re going to need it,
’cause I fight like a girl

I’ll get my revenge on the world or a least 49% of the people in it
And if I wake up with blood on my hands,
well, I know that you’ll understand,
’cause I fight like a girl.

We are under attack
What is the body count? I’ve lost track
If nobody’s mentioned how this will end, then I’ll be the first
there are more of US than there are of YOU, so show me your worst

For there is no such thing as justice,
all the best that we can hope for is revenge:
A hostile takeover,
an absolute rebellion to the end.
This is our battle cry
I’m giving you a head start,
you’re going to need it,
’cause I fight like a girl

I’ll get my revenge on the world or a least 49% of the people in it
And if I wake up with blood on my hands,
well, I know that you’ll understand,
’cause I fight like a girl.

It’s so easy to kill,
this I learned by watching you
If I have to, I will,
it’s not pretty but it’s true
I am through lying still,
just a body to be
beaten, fucked, and if I’m lucky, left for dead,
so WHO’S scary now?
No mercy, it's a bit too late
The game is on, don't run, don't hide, don't wait
‘Cause if we’ve got no honor,
then we’ve got no shame,
if it’s in self-defense,
then we will take no blame
This is our battlecry
even if you’re only a boy,
you can
FIGHT LIKE A GIRL!

‘Cause I fight like a girl,
I’ll get my revenge on the world (or at least 49% of the people in it),
and if I end up with blood on my hands
Well, I know, that you’ll understand,
’cause I fight like a girl.

    My Interpretation

The album FLAG is a story of a group of women stuck in an insane asylum who decide they want to get free. They see it as starting an all out war, and this could be them gathering their morale, for the war.

Outside of the story idea, this song, as well as the whole album contains some serious feminist beliefs and uses the treatment of women in the 1800's to justify it. Which is arguable about how the treatment of women, especially those with mental disorders has 'improved'.

Can't really analyze it much other than there are two ways I take the lyrics, some of the lines sound very patient vs. doctor, while the obvious theme is remaining strong when you've been defiled or destroyed in a way such as rape in this case.

The thing I want to mention however is that while the studio version isn't out, there are differences in lyrics than the ones she posted and the ones she's singing live.

"If I end up with blood on my hands..."

    And the major one being

"No mercy, it's a bit too late The game is on, don't run, don't hide, don't wait."

She sings both these in every-single performance that's on youtube.

I'm going to the concert in Toronto in February-- I'm so excited. Hopefully the rest of the album is as wonderful as this song.

Most people say that FLAG as an album is most likely the soundtrack for EA's musical in progress. It definitely follows a storyline about women in an asylum and fighting back, especially against men, and this song sums it up, although "Girls! Girls! Girls!" is also a very good interpretation. I always got the feeling that the story was set in Victorian times, when only girls were ever considered mentally unstable, and those girls were almost always oppressed by men, causing their so-called "insanity" which may have just been uniqueness and rebellion.

"just a body to be beaten, fucked, and if I'm lucky, left for dead" she was RAPED. When she was 17. She actually checked herself into a mental hospital at one point, it was driving her insane. The FLAG album is all about ladies in a Victorian mental asylum.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
