"The Keeper" as written by and John Winston Lennon....
I come from far away
My boots don't know this ground
But they know it's real
It doesn't take too long
For this road to become
A battle field

And before I let one more fire go out
Understand that I won't give one inch of ground
From beneath your's and my feet
Whatever the price happens to be

I may not be The Keeper of the flame
But I am The Keeper

Beauty and truth collide
Where love meets genocide
Where laughter meets fear
Confusion all around
As I try to feed these mouths
That have never known singing

And before I let one more tear hit the ground
I will be the one standing between you and the sound of the rounds
Echoing out, out of the dark
The smoke and the spark
Aimed at the heart of the flame

I am The Keeper

I cannot see the light
At the end of the tunnel tonight
My eyes are weary

And before I let one more life get erased
From the ashes I will rise
For you and the ghosts of the names
The faces and frames
The love and the pain
For you I'll remain, though I'm not worthy of
Being The Keeper of the flame

I am The Keeper
I am The Keeper

General CommentFirst off, I love this song. I love the way Chris used imagery in this song. As for the meanings, it's pretty straight forward. This song was written for the movie, "Machine Gun Preacher" about Sam Childers who used to be in a biker gang and now dedicates his life to helping children in Sudan and protect them from the LRA (Lord's Resistance Army). Often times protecting them by using force himself i.e. guns and/or arms. Basically the song is about Childers not letting anything get in his way and doing whatever it takes to protect them. Great song, great story.

My InterpretationYes definitely it is linked to the movie, so my interpretation is also linked in the same way.

Sam Childers came from a far away land US to Sudan and he does't know the the country, but He knows and understands the trouble people are going through.

And it doesn't takes to long for this place to become a battle field just trying to save the people and children, he will not let anyone die and he is ready t give any price for it.

He may not be the actual protector but he is god's man and in a way he is a protector.
