"Release Me" as written by and Andrew Mcmahon....
She thinks I'm much too thin
She asks me if I'm sick
What's a girl to do with friends like this

She let's me drive her car
So I can score an eighth
From the lesbians
Out west in Venice

Oh-oh-oh
California in the summer
Ah-ah-ah
And my hair is growing long
Fuck yeah we can live like this

But if you left it up to me
Everyday would be a holiday…
From real
We'd waste our weeks beneath the sun
We'd fry our brains and say its so much fun…
Out here

But when its all over
I'll come back for another year

I look for work today
I'm spilling out the door
Put my glasses on,
So no one sees me
I'd never thought that
I'd be living on your floor
But the rents are high
And L.A. easy

Oh-oh-oh
It's a picture of perfection
Ah-ah-ah
And the postcard gunna read…
Fuck yeah we can live like this
We can live like this

But if you left it up to me
Everyday would be a holiday…
From real
We'd waste our weeks beneath the sun
We'd fry our brains and write its so much fun…
Out here

Hey Madeline
(Hey Madeline)
You sure look fine
(You sure look fine)
You wore my favorite sweater
Being bored was never better

A safety buzz
Some cheap red wine
Oh the trouble we can get in
So let's screw this one up right

But if you left it up to me
Everyday would be a holiday…
From real
We'd waste our weeks beneath the sun
We'd lie, and tell our friends its so much fun…
Out here

But when its all over
I'll come back for another…
But when its all over
I'll come back for another year

My InterpretationI think this songs about a guy who had a really bad breakup with a girl he really loved and he's having a hard time tryin to move on. Seems to me he tried everything he could to keep things going with this girl but she just wasnt interested anymore and all he did wasnt enough and he got hurt in the end, so he decided to move on. "And I been known to take a big chance, But I cant waste another shot at redemption "

He thinks he has it kinda figured out now, but him being "death-proof" is actually a really fragile thing given that he still have feelings for her which he tries to repress for the sake of his sanity but the girl keeps getting on the way, trying to keep him close and teasing him even though she's no good to him. "My confidence is in crisis mode your fingertips well they know the code"

The chorus is kinda like he's telling her to stop teasing him and leave him alone cause he's had to put up with a lot of crap, and he's done a lot of work to get over her but yet he's not strong enough to not give into the temptation of a shot at being with her again, which ultimately would hurt him badly cause she has no real interest in getting back together.
"Release me and take another piece of me and there won't be another left (...) unless you let go"
