If they take my hand will it be to burn me or to say amen
We beckon so we can make amends
And with the same flip of the hand we curse our friends
Where it's all a blur, you are the hard line
In the disorder, you are the peace sign

It's getting hard to know
If I'm on the tracks or off the beaten road
When no truth ever easily shows
So I'll follow you no matter where you go

And when it's all a blur, you ore the hard line
In the disorder, you are the peace sign
And when the riots stir, you are the sound mind
And in the disorder, you are the peace sign

I can't tell if they're laughing at me or with me
All these hints and subtleties they got me on
My knees begging for serenity
And when it's all a blur, you are the hard line

In the disorder, you are the peace sign
And when the riots stir, you are the sound mind
And in the disorder, you are the peace sign
And when it's all a blur, you ore the peace sign
And in the disorder, you ore the peace sign

The song is about having that stable, guiding 'thing' in your life. That 'thing' can be faith, a person, a lover, an ideal, etc. When everything and/or everyone around you is going crazy, it's the one thing you can hold on to that won't change.

I understand how people might generally jump to the fact that this song is about God. But to someone who doesn't have that faith in God, this song may mean something different. I for one believe that this song can be about anyone you have faith in and who's there for you no matter what :) Of course, I'm also not saying that this isn't about God; because He may be the one who you have faith in and who'll look out for you no matter what :D

I think it's pretty obvious this song is about God. We live in a messed up world where it's hard to trust people, even our selves, but He is "the hard line", "the sound mind", and "the peace sign".

    Song Meaning

The song is about the G20 riots in Toronto. The first line in the song "If they take my hand will it be to burn me or to say amen" is a reference to what was going on with the police at the time - there were peaceful protesters and there were violent protestors and the police were grabbing anyone on the streets they could, getting them out of the way or arresting them. Lights was living in Toronto at the time.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
