Io amo le cose semplici
E bacio la mia donna sotto la pioggia perché abbiamo gusti identici
Per fare colpo non mi serve lo yacht
Per fare strada non mi serve la Porsche

I'm a man, a man of simple pleasures
I got all I need, so give me whisky measures
With dyslexic eyes, seeing very clearly by the way
I'm on my way
For all of my life
I've been treated like a fool
But I'm no one's fool

Here I go once again
Trying hard to pretend
There's a future in your man made rules
I'll be governed by the road
Get to shed this heavy load
I see no future, so leave me alone in past

Viviamo nel presente perché ci han tolto il futuro
Siamo il colore prepotente di uno spray sul muro
Qui nella zona grigia terra di nessuno

I am told, the world is nearly ending
But when I look outside the birds are always singing
You throw sticks and bones
Remember every dog will have it's day
I'm on my way

For all of my life
I've been treated like a fool
But I'm no one's fool
Here I go once again
Trying hard to pretend
There's a future in your man made rules
I'll be governed by the road
Get to shed this heavy load
I've seen your future, so leave me alone in past

Go on, let the righteous guide you home
To where you belong
I'll stay, dancing to my favourite tune
That's where I belong
You won't take me for a ride
I'm far too fast for you to keep up with me
You won't take me for a ride
Never catch them relly need no money
I'm not gonna be standing in the line (you won't take me for a ride)
Waiting for you just to kick me out (you won't take me for a ride, I'll calm down)
You won't take me for a ride
You won't take me for a ride, I'll calm down

E la storia la scrive il vincitore (oh-oh-oh)
Così un terrorista diventa un eroe (oh-oh-oh)
Ma io so chi ci ha spinto sull'orlo del precipizio (oh-oh-oh)
E mi lascio governare solo dall'istinto (oh-oh-oh)

It seems strange the way so many people try to narrow affluence of meanings in various songs into just issues between men and women.

I see this song quite differently. It is not about some certain partner or person, and “whiskey measures” seems to be put here just for a rhyme.

Tom unfolds his reflections on society he lives in. In a constant flow of dos and donts coming from it we swim like fishes trying not to drown. People that surround us, social institutions, religion, media etc., they all bring knowledge, shouting loudly, casting tons of information on our heads. We are told that world’s end is coming, year by year, but we’re still alive by some miracle, and “birds are always singing” just like they used to. They treat you like a fool when you refuse to play their games in terms of what they seem to be normal, modern and respectworthy. Them, “the righteous ”.

He sees no future, but don’t be misunderstood and upset with this phrase. No future - in going on living up to others’ rules, “man-made rules”. He just dares to doubt them!

These are the words of a quite content man, yet bitter a little way, who lives on his own, and feels strong and self-sufficient.

One of Kasabian’s most profound songs, I think.

    My Interpretation

Cant believe I am first to do this song.

I think this song is about a partner he is with. Basically saying he had simple things he wanted at begging but wanted whiskey to blur the bad points and allows to be treated the fool.

By the second verse he getting tired of it, world ending but birds singing. . . She treats him like a dog "you throw sticks and bones" But warns that he will have his day.

In verse three he getting ready to leave, telling her to go home cuz he happy how he is and they belong in two separate places.

And in the end he had enough and left her, but she wants him back but he better than her now and stronger/faster and knows if they did get back the cycle would happen again and she'd leave him.

In the chorus he says he pretending and going along with it, he cant live by her rules and if he lives on streets he be rid of them. He sees no future and wants her to leave him alone

This is gonna sound harsh, and I doubt this is what Serge had in mind when writing this, but the lyrics really sound like someone finally realising that his views of the world don't lead anywhere. I'm reading a book on how modern man is at a point of tension: on the one hand, he doesn't believe in God and believes in blind chance etc, but on the other hand he cannot deal with the logical consequence of that worldview. He believes in feelings and meaning and things like love and beauty, when he actually has no basis for such feelings. By amazing coincidence I found that same message in this song.

The chorus is powerful support: Here I go once again trying hard to pretend There's a future in your man made rules I'll be governed by the road, get to shed this heavy load I see no future, so leave me alone in the past

By the modern man's worldview, rules are indeed man made. But if everything is a result of blind chance, then the rules don't really make a difference - hence there's no future in them, as the man in the song realises. He sees no future - quite rightly, since his worldview doesn't support a glorious future. That's why he wishes to be left alone in the past, in a tone that to me at least sounds quite sombre and dark (as it well should, following my interpretation).

Also this blends in nicely: I am told, the world is nearly ending But when I look outside the birds are always singing

There's all this talk of the world ending and everything finishing in chaos with no ultimate meaning. However, the man in the song notices that there is beauty and meaning in nature (birds singing). This is interesting because it contradicts with his worldview of meaninglessness brought about by chance and randomness.

Go on, let the righteous guide you home to where you belong I'll stay, listen to my favorite tunes, that's where I belong You won't take me for a ride, you won't take me for a ride

The song closes with an arrogant attitude of not wanting to change and wishing to stick to the paradox that he is in. Nothing has meaning, but still the nature around him proves otherwise. Nevertheless, the person here chooses to ignore any possibility to mend the situation he is in.

Awesome song. I hope it makes listeners think about the situation they are in, too.

It's about longing for the simple things in life. It's not about a girl, it's not about religion.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
