I hear voices, they tell me to stop
Why should I listen,
They've never felt the drop
They hide in corners behind the pretty girls
In their
Gold in their gold in their gold
One minute to a, one minute to a, one minute to midnight
My soul you can have it cause it don't mean shit
I'd sell it to the devil for
Another hit
And midnight is coming and I wish that you were here

I hear
Voices, echo in my brain
They don't like it cause I'm not dressed the same
They
Hunt for rabbits just like Yosemite Sam
Say your prayers, say your prayers, say your
Prayers
One minute to a, one minute to a, one minute to midnight

My soul you
Can have it cause it don't mean shit
I'll sell it to the devil for another hit
And
Midnight is coming and I wish that you were here
My soul you can have it cause it don't
Mean shit
I'll sell it to the devil for another hit
And midnight is coming and I
Wish that you were here

There's no need to fall, there's no need at all
Out of control on my own trying to find my way back
How did end up here And into darkness I walk as the world goes on by
Out of control on my own trying to find
My way back
How did end up here
And into darkness I walk as the world goes on by
I hear voices they tell me to stop
I hear voices they tell me to stop
I
Hear voices they tell me to stop
I hear voices they tell me to stop

    My Interpretation

Basically it my understanding he is wrestling with his conscience (mostly bad side) by looking at pretty girls and gold being glittering promise of things that could come.

In the second verse he talks about not being dressed the same meaning he not following the crowd and his conscience telling him he should to "fit in" and other people do the same thing over and over again with dressing the same "like yosemite sam" always goes after bugs bunny but fails.

I think the chorus is basically him just saying he cares about stuff like that because his thoughts and conscience are telling him to do anything for another hit song. meaning the world can have his soul and dignity so long as he gets it.

And at the end he realises what he done and can't believe it and changes his ways and stops listening to the voices

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
