The day I first met you
You told me you never fall in love
But now that I get you
I know fear is what it really was

Now here we are so close yet so far
How did I pass the test?
When will you realize
Baby I'm not like the rest

Don't wanna break your heart
Wanna give your heart a break
I know your scared it's wrong
Like you might make a mistake
There's just one life to live
And there's no time to wait to waste
So let me give your heart a break
Give your heart a break
Let me give your heart a break
Your heart a break

Oh yeah yeah

A Sunday you went home alone
There were tears in your eyes
I called your cell phone, my love
But you did not reply

The world is ours if you want it
We can take it, if you just take my hand
There's no turning back now
Baby try to understand

Don't wanna break your heart
Wanna give your heart a break
I know you're scared it's wrong
Like you might make a mistake
There's just one life to live
And there's no time to wait to waste
So let me give your heart a break
Give your heart a break
Let me give your heart a break
Your heart a break
There's just so much you can take
Give your heart a break
Let me give your heart a break
Your heart a break

Oh yeah yeah

When your lips are on my lips
And our hearts beat as one
But you slip out of my fingertips
Every time you run

Don't wanna break your heart
Wanna give your heart a break
I know your scared it's wrong
Like you might make a mistake
There's just one life to live
And there's no time to wait to waste
So let me give your heart a break
'Cause you been hurt before
I can see it in your eyes
You try to smile it away
Some things you can't disguise
Don't wanna break your heart
Baby I can erase the ache, the ache
So let me give your heart a break
Give your heart a break
Let me give your heart a break
Your heart a break
There's just so much you can take
Give your heart a break
Let me give your heart a break
Your heart a break

The day I first met you
You told me you never fall in love

    My Interpretation

We often associate falling in love with getting hurt, and we instinctively run to the opposite direction when somebody assures us that they are "not like the rest". But this song is saying, "Hey, allow me to love you, let me give your heart a break." Maybe love isn't always about getting hurt, it can also be about healing. We often think that the pain/suffering/fear we are experiencing are results of allowing ourselves to love and be loved, but we forget that the beauty of love is it overcomes all these.

It's funny how some just won't let themselves be loved...

I cant believed no one commented yet. This song is very self explanatory, he told her that he wasn't the one to fall in love with anybody. and that's probably because of past relationships, and or experiences. But she proved him wrong, and he fell in love with her.

    My Interpretation

My take on this song is that there will always be someone out there, even if that person is the person that you would least expect, that would be your best soul mate, and who will be there for you whenever you need it. When the song first begins by saying, "The day I first met you, You told me you never fall in love, But now that I get you, I know fear is what it really was" That was probably because you just met the person, and don't really think that that person is right for you, for you don’t know much about the person, and on top of that, you’re scared for many reasons.

More to come on the rest of the song soon...

My interpretation is very wrong but its what it means to me. I think that its about her failing for one of her best friends that is a girl. I think that especially when she says that she is scared thats wrong. And this girl she likes has had bad luck with guys and she wants her to know that it isn't wrong and she loves her and wants to be with her and that she won't hurt her.

This song speaks of a phenomenon that I have observed over and over again. We have someone who is in love with someone else, but the other person wants to bolt and run out of fear-- a fear of intimacy. Rather than to open themself up and become vulnerable, they just prefer to take the easy route and hide. They become an emotional coward. But the other person is offering their love and offering their hand. They want to be their lover and to be their friend, but the only problem is that the other won't allow them to give their heart a break.

I absolutely love this song. It is one of my favourites atm. The song is very straight forward to be honest. But you could take it in others way for example...it reminds me of a girl who has met this guy who has been hurt in previous relationship and doesnt think he can trust a girl again, and as a friend she is saying you can trust me and i want you to give urself a break from all this heartache so let me be the one to make things right. (Even though the song is clearly about love and not friendship).

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

No Surprises

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
