"If I Had A Gun" as written by and Noel Gallagher....
If I had a gun
I'd shoot a hole into the sun
And love would burn this city down for you
If I had the time
I'd stop the world and make you mine
And every day would stay the same with you

Give you back a dream
Show you now what might have been
For the tears you cried will fade away
I'll be by your side
When they come and say goodbye
We will live to fight another day

Excuse me if I spoke too soon
My eyes have always followed you around the room
'Cause you're the only god that I will ever need
I'm holding on
And waiting for the moment to find me

Hope I didn't speak too soon
My eyes have always followed you around the room
'Cause you're the only god that I will ever need
I'm holding on
And waiting for the moment for my heart to be unbroken by the sea

Let me fly you to the moon
My eyes have always followed you around the room
'Cause you're the only god that I will ever need
I'm holding on
And waiting for the moment to find me

If I had a gun
I'd shoot a hole into the sun
And love would burn this city down for you

My InterpretationWell, obviously, [and according to a local radio station] this is a love song contrary to what its title sounds like. A possibly very deep, unrequited but hopeful love. Beautifully written.

My OpinionThis song to me is about finally meeting a person you have an impossibly deep connection with, and realizing that you'd actually do anything for them. It's like being in a crowded room, but being around that person makes all of the surrounding chaos seem like white noise. It's the sort of love where if something horrible happened to the other person, even if they dumped you or broke your heart, you wouldn't be able to live with yourself if they were suffering somehow.

I really love this song compared to other love songs because it feels more realistic. It's not about how love is perfect and nothing bad will ever happen in a relationship because two people are in perfect flawless love. It's more like learning to become a better person because the person you're with deserves the best.

General CommentThe speak too soon ... eyes have always followed you round the room .. only god I'll ever need verse
is simply genius and well sung.

Clearly from the video it is either about unrequited/unspoken love or an old man looking back on his one true love. How nice.

As singer songwriters go he has a far better voice than Clapton, Thompson and Weller but we've had to wait for middle age/the departure of Liam for people to notice. Hope the other songs are as good.

My InterpretationI definitely feel this song is about one-way love.

"Hope I didn't speak too soon.." meaning there's some fear that expressing their true feelings may in fact be taken the wrong way and make matters worse.
