"Ruby" as written by and Tyler Joseph....
Ruby I hope I see you, I've waited all this week
For you to walk my way, your soul will capture me
Your momma painted your room a shade of pink, she said
But with your great arrival that shade has turned to red

Ruby take my hand, please lead me to the promised land
Tell me, where am I from, your eyes say, shada de da dum
Ruby, you're royalty, in your home land, they all call you queen
Tell me, where are you from, your eyes say, shada de da dum

You're an angel fallen down, won't you tell us of the clouds
You have fallen from the sky, how high, how high?
You're an angel fallen down, won't you tell us of the clouds
You have fallen from the sky, how high, how high?

You're true and pure
You hold the cure
We're all diseased
You hold the key

You're an angel fallen down, won't you tell us of the clouds
You have fallen from the sky, how high, how high?

Tell our dad, I'm sorry (hey)
Tell our dad, I'm sorry (hey)
Tell our dad, I'm sorry (hey)
Tell our dad, I'm sorry (hey)
Tell our dad, I'm sorry (hey)
Tell our dad, I'm sorry (hey)
Tell our dad, I'm sorry (hey)

You're an angel
You're an angel
You're an angel
You're an angel
You're an angel

Tell our dad, I'm sorry
Tell our dad, I'm sorry
Tell our dad, I'm sorry, yeah

You're an angel

Song MeaningTyler and Josh have revealed that this song is actually about a girl named Ruby who has Down's Syndrome and went to their church, hence the lyric, "I hope I see you, I've waited all this week." This song is mostly about how highly Tyler thinks of her, like an angel, but there's also a message of repentance towards the end (Tell our Dad I'm sorry). It's not uncommon for Tyler to mention his faltering relationship with his god in his songs; for example, 'Addict With a Pen' is strictly about how he feels that he hasn't been the best of followers and is now struggling to reconnect. By equating Ruby to an angel, he's seeing her as a messenger that will let god, their Father, know that he's sorry, again, probably for not having the best relationship with him that he could. No matter what it means, it's brilliantly clever and adorable.

My InterpretationI always thought the song was about divorce. "Ruby, I hope I see you I've waited all this week for you to walk my way" this lyric would be from the perspective of Ruby's dad, talking about how it was his week for Ruby to come over, hence the "I've waited all this week," which would be about him waiting while it was her mom's week to have her. "Your momma painted your room a shade of pink, she said" these lyrics kind of are talking about, well, Ruby's room being red, and with the "shade of pink, she said" notice the "she said" kind of meaning the dad himself didn't see it, because he doesn't live with Ruby's mom because they are divorced. "Ruby, take my hand, please lead me to the promise land" this part to me sounds like the dad would be stressed, but when Ruby comes over, she leads him to the promise land. "You're an angel fallen down won't you tell us of the clouds you have fallen from the sky how high, how high?" now the song is talking about how the father thinks she's an angel, and he just wants to listen to her. "You're true and pure you hold the cure we're all diseased you hold the key" I feel like this means how the mom and dad are fighting over stuff, hence the "we're all diseased" and Ruby is the thing that makes them happy, also with the "you hold the key". And the "tell your dad I'm sorry" is just the mom wanting Ruby to tell her father she's sorry for fighting.
But whatever it really means, it's a still a great song. And this is just my own interpretation, I'm not saying this is what it really means.

General CommentRuby seems like his sister. Tyler has expressed in interviews that how good a brother he is is very important to him. Also from "your momma" and "where am I from", she is likely a little sister. She is so true and pure that she is otherworldly and a blessing to the "diseased".

My OpinionMost of Twenty One Pilots songs are religious, but with me not being a religious person I try and see them a different way. To me this song seems to be about a boy that really likes this girl, he thinks she is the definition of perfection, but I guess others see her as an outcast such as her family which is why he says tell our dad I'm sorry. I don't know it makes sense to me. :)

My InterpretationMaybe it seems a little far fetched, but sometimes I wonder if this song is secretly about the blood of Jesus. Maybe, I just hope it could be, but I think I give the writer to much credit for his beliefs. Sha-da-di-da-dum...

My InterpretationWhen I first heard the song, I thought of a little sister and a big brother. The lyric "Ruby I hope I see you, I've waited all this week" is saying to me that this brother has been waiting for his sister and finally, she has been born. Her room was painted pink as said in the lyrics. As the brother is praising his sister and her "Eyes" say, "Shada-de da dum" because baby's cannot speak words so I interpret this as musical baby sounds. By the time the lyric "tell our dad I'm sorry" comes along, the baby sister is dead. The older brother was left to watch his sister and something terrible happened that he couldn't control and she died. Her room turned red maybe saying that she died in her room. She an angel and being asked to tell "us" of the clouds. Now, the fact that the brother sounds like he's talking to Ruby might imply that the father is dead and it's only him and the mother. That part can be left up to you.

General CommentI always thought maybe this song was about being trans. Since red is traditionally a boy color and pink is a girl color, I always thought the lyric "your mama painted your room a shade of pink...with your great arrival that shade has turned to red" was talking about someone coming out as trans.
