I can't hold back
My hands won't let me
It's the touch of your skin
Is it lust or envy?
Is it lust or envy?

I can't hold back
My pride won't let me
I'm seeing red
This is all too deadly
This is all too deadly

Fallout, one more taste (one last time)
I just can't help it
Fallout, I need it all
Hanging from the edge of heaven

All seven
All seven
Fallout, I need it all
Hanging from the edge of heaven
(Hanging from the edge of heaven)

I can't get up
Motivation left me
I've let it burn
Only embers left in me
Only embers left in me

My old friend, how long it's been
My original sin, we meet again
You taught me to live like this
My original sin, we meet again

Fallout, one more taste (one last time)
I just can't help it
Fallout, I need it all
Hanging from the edge of heaven

All seven
All seven
Fallout, I need it all
Hanging from the edge of heaven

I'll take my place
My mind still hates you
With my seven sins
I'll win again, baby, I'll win again

Fallout, one more taste (one last time)
I just can't help it
Fallout, I need it all
Hanging from the edge of heaven

All seven
All seven
Fallout, I need it all
Hanging from the edge of heaven

It actually has nothing specifically to do with alcohol. It's about the 7 Deadly Sins. He mentions lust, envy. He claims "this is too deadly". He also says "with my seven sins". Basically, he's on the edge of heaven but he's not ready to give up "all seven" of the sins because he still needs them, he can't help it.

I think the song is about wanting to be a good person "hanging from the edge of heaven," but giving into the bad parts of yourself, the parts that commit the seven deadly sins. The 7 sins are Pride, Envy, Lust, Sloth, Gluttony, Anger and Greed. In the song, he literally sings "my seven sins." Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. In the song he says, "My pride won't let me." He also says, "I'll take my place among the angels" and "I'll reign again," which are references to pride. Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation. Lust is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body. Some of the songs lyrics, "Is it lust or envy?" Also, "One more taste, one more touch" is a reference to lust. Sloth is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work. Lyrics that reference sloth are, "I can't get up. Motivation left me." Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires. The lyrics "I need it all" reference gluttony pretty well. Anger is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. "I'm seeing red," is often a reference to anger. He also says, "I've let it burn, only embers left in me" which could be another reference to anger. Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. Many of the lyrics can be related to greed, such as "I can't hold back" and "I just can't help it."

    Lyric Correction

Love this song, great beat/lyrics. It, Wooly, Lauren's Song, and Last Night are my top songs from this cd.

    Few corrections:

First verse: I think it's "Is it lust or envy?"

and later: Only embers left in me

I believe this song is talking about drinking, or a past addiction to alcohol. Jack Daniel's to be exact. Old No 7 Brand. I believe this is why the word 7 (seven) is used. "One more taste" and "my old friend" and "my original sin" are all dead giveaways. Hanging from the edge of heaven may mean that a relapse is coming (to alcohol addiction). Just my take. Great song though.

    My Interpretation

I think this song is about having sex with someone who you used to be with. I don't know, I could be wrong, but that's what I get from this song.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
