It's easy to say
No hard feelings
When your talking to a robot
But gets a little tougher
When she starts to take her mask off
Stupid mother fucker
Shoulda never took my clothes off
3..2..1..Blast off

Yeah shes an android got it on a polariod
White lights in her eyes got me all paranoid
Straight outta the movies, with some blade runner shit
Tongue to the battery, speakin 8 bit
Yea
Like atari but sorry no buttons
The only game she plays is lie about somethin
Thats a clue to back off
Before she takes her mask off

It's easy to say
No hard feelings
When your talking to a robot
But gets a little tougher
When she starts to take her mask off
Stupid mother fucker
Shoulda never took my clothes off
3..2..1..Blast off

I don't wanna date another robot like
All I ever hear is how she buzzed all night
You don't wanna see another robot fight
And if you never learn to treat a robot right
All I hear is bleep bloop r2d2
When you pull the maske off
Her face is see through
Control alt delete you
Until we wipe the past off
3..2..1..Blast off

It's easy to say
No hard feelings
When your talking to a robot
But gets a little tougher
When she starts to take her mask off
Stupid mother fucker
Should've never took my clothes off
3..2..1..Blast off
(x2)

Everybody in the place do the robot
I can see it in your face do the robot
If you got metal parts put your hands up
Hands up hands up hands up hands up
Everybody in the place do the robot
I can see it in your face do the robot
If your born without a heart put your hands up
hands up hands up

It's easy to say
No hard feelings
When your talking to a robot
But gets a little tougher
When she starts to take her mask off
Stupid mother fucker
Shoulda never took my clothes off
3..2..1..Blast off
(x2)

All I ever wanted was for you to say you loved me
But somehow that emotion got jumbled up in your circuitry
Which left me lying in your bed a question on my tongue
I shoulda known that you were cold
I shoulda known that you were numb
I shoulda run I shoulda run
All the things I shoulda done
I shoulda seen my future coming
Saved my sould from getting spun
I should've never let your dark eyes tie me into knots
But I guess that's just what happens when you try to date a robot
(x2)

I guess that's just what happens when you try to date a robot

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
