"It's a Corporate World" as written by and Daniel Zott Joshua Epstein....
Stepping outside and it’s late in the fall,
So I'm trepidatious,
And I’m facing changes...
Oh whoa, oh
Are you an upstart still in the red?
Are you allocating?
Are you funds and wages?
Oh whoa, oh, oh, oh

It’s a corporate world,
I’m a corporation cutting back.
It’s a corporate world,
I’m a corporation cutting back,
and I’ve been so patient.

Oh whoa, oh, oh, oh.

Are you a field yet to be cleared?
Are you overgrown?
Are you all alone?
Oh whoa, oh.
I know a guy who can make it a park full of mobile homes.
Sit there on your throne.
Oh whoa, oh, oh, oh.

It’s a corporate world,
I’m a corporation cutting back.
It’s a corporate world,
I’m a corporation cutting back,
and I’ve been so patient.

Ah, ah...

It’s a corporate world,
I’m a corporation cutting back, cutting back.
It’s a corporate world,
I’m a corporation cutting back.
It’s a corporate world,
I’m a corporation, a company needs a long vacation,
Corporate world,
I’m a corporation cutting back,
and I’ve been so patient.

I’ve got a guy in my pocket to vouch for your character,
you’re the manager, you can handle her

General CommentCorporations are famous for buying up businesses and land that are failing or unused. Perhaps the author did this with people - friends, girlfriends, in distress. He tried to change them, improve them, make them profitable in some way... He's been patient, but his resources are exhausted. Now he's cutting back - either because he's selfish and only wants what's useful to himself/his "brand," or because he's realized he's expending so much on these people who will never improve themselves, and he needs to focus on himself for a while.
