She got the antidote she knows the other way
She really understands I don't what the hell to say
I'm on the other side I'm on the other side
I'm in exile to left of a landslide

I got no broken wing
I got the moonshine
I let my enemies slide for the meantime
Why don't you let it go
Why don't you let it go
Why don't you let it go
Let it go let it go

And I give myself away
When there's nothing left to say
I surrender myself to the wind
Into the afterlife (Into the afterlife)
with you and me
into the afterlife (Into the afterlife)
with you and me

The worries on your face
The stars came out to play
I try to tell myself
I won't mess up again
I try to fix it good
I try to patch it up
I got a manual that tells us how we have to love
Forgot your neighbor forgot your love
Forgot the strength cause you can never get enough
Why don't you let it go
Why don't you let it go
Why don't you let it go
Let it go let it go

And I give myself away
When there's nothing left to say
I surrender myself to the wind
Love is sinking fast within

Into the afterlife (Into the afterlife)
With you and me
Into the afterlife (Into the afterlife)
with you and me
You and me

Come inside, come over here
I remember you through all the years
Don't try to run us down
When the world is at your feet
Don't let the baby bite
(Bite bite)

She got the antidote
She knows the other way
She really under understands
I don't what the hell to say
I'm on the other side
I'm on the other side
I'm in exile to left of a landslide

And I give myself away
When there's nothing left to say
I surrender myself to the wind
Love is sinking fast within

Into the afterlife (Into the afterlife)
With you and me
Into the afterlife (Into the afterlife)
with you and me

Into the afterlife (Into the afterlife)
With you and me

Why don't you let it go
Why don't you let it go
With you and me
Into the afterlife
Why don't you let it go
Why don't you let it go
Why don't you let it go
Let it go let it go

Really? First to post here? Heh.

This song's meaning implies two lovers with different standards, referring to the "I let my enemies slide for the mean time", used adjacent to "Why don't you let it go?". Sometimes you need to forget who causes trouble or caused trouble in the past. Because those who do mind don't matter. They need not to be judged or seen anything less than a human being.

I agree with aggregate0072,he has had different values and standards than his lover. He has done things in the past she sometimes can and sometimes can't forget. His more forgiving and is just tryingtosay,"That was then, but this is now...LET IT GO ALREADY!"

The song's title is Afterlife, it has nothing to do with lovers. It's about 2 people (father and son), fighting for the power of God. I (the son), put a fail safe 'curse' on the entire universe, since he wanted to torture everyone. The only other option is not good, but I couldn't get my father to love even anyone, so we shall suffer forever very soon.

To me this song seems to be referring to disappointing someone he loves. He doesn't know what to say, but he is tring to fix it and patch the relationship up. He is surrendering and giving himself to (her) and is asking her to let go of the past and move forward with him. When he says she's got the antidote it's like saying its up to her now to let go of the past and continue forward with him (into the afterlife).

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
