"The Hellcat Spangles Shalalala" as written by and Alex Turner....
Just when things are getting complicated in the eye of the storm
She flicks a red-hot revelation off the tip of her tongue
It does a dozen somersaults and it leaves you supercharged
Makes me wanna blow her candles out just to see if you glow in the dark

Shalalala
Shalalala
Shalalala
Shalalala

Home sweet home, home sweet home, home sweet booby-trap
I took the batteries out my mysticism and put 'em in my thinking cap
She's got a telescopic hallelujah hanging up on the wall
For when it gets too complicated in the eye of the storm

Shalalala
Shalalala
Shalalala
Shalalala

Oh, and in a hellcat spangled cavern
When your judgment's on the run
And you're acting like a stranger
'Cause you thought it looked like fun

Well did you ever get the feeling
Did you think she set the fall
Her steady hands may well have done the devil's pedicure
What you waiting for to sing another fuckin'

Shalalala
Shalalala
Shalalala
Shalalala

General CommentSo this guy is in a fight with his girl and the girl in the heat of the battle reveals something that she has been keeping away in her back pocket for when everything hit the fan. Whatever the "revleation" is the girl knows that when she puts that information out there that she knows exactly what reaction she is going to recieve from the guy and that she well revel in the feeling she gets knowing the guy suffers. And just as she expect when she reveals the informatino, the guys heartbeat and enrgy is through the roof (dozen summersaults and superCHARGED) Alex Turner suggest that the guy is so heated, so angry, so riled up by this girls revelation that in complete darkness the guy would be glowing.

So after the argument the guy gets back to his house. The whole time he was arguing with his girl he just wanted to be at home alone where he felt comfortable and nothing could go wrong. But the home can be a lonely place, expecially when you recieve "a red hot revelation" from a girl that you love. This home which normally appears to be some comforting sudenly becomes a place of entrapment. His home becomes a place where he can not escape the thoughts that the girl implanted in his mind.

"I took that batteris out my mysticiysm and put them in my thinking cap"
So basically this guy is at home and it is tortuting him. He has gotten to the point where his mind has gotten the best of him and is running wild with the worst thoughs. At this point the guy has turned what ever the girl told him into something that is unimaginably worse. The thoughts he thinks are tearing him up, but he has no real grounds or justification to be thinking such horrbile things based off the one thing the girl told him (mysticism: groundless speculation). Everyone knows that batteris are something that are neccesary in some devices to make them opperate. In otherwords batteris produce charge. It just so happens that all this "charge" was produced from this girl's revelation (remember: "leaves you superCHARGED") It is this "supercharge" or "battery" that is operating his mind to create this mysticism (all the horible thoughts that his mind is creating based on over exagerations of what the girl initally told him.) So he decides to remove the source of this torture and try to use all that superCHARGE to operate his mind (thinkiing cap) to figure out what he can do to solve this situation.

So while this guy is at home going absolutely insane, his girl is off in a compely different state. The girl is infact so happy that she is torturing her man. Althoug she is happy that she has caused such emotinal stress on her boyfriend, she is very secrative about her hellcatish ways. She prides herself in fact that she can wrap guys around her finger. This pride is evident when Turner mentions "shes got telescopic hallelujah hanging up on the wall". The "hallelujah" represents something a long the line "Wow! I am so awesome because I am tortring this guy." As for the "telescopic" part, this means that its personal. Meaning that she feels that self satisfaction and that she only does it for herself for pure enjoyment. Her behaivor and enjoyment from that behaivor is only know to her.

So finally the two return to eachother face to face. "Hellcat Spangled Cavern" represents that environment they guy feels when he returen to his girl or maybe just the general state of his mind at this point or possibly even the girls home. Anyways, this guy can not make a decison about this girl and he is just distraught. His decison what he wants to do with her goes back in forth in his mind. The girl is talking to him and he is just sitting there thinking about what to do. The guy is acting very distant from his girlfriend, but not because he is angry. The guy thinks that by being distant "looks like fun" because it might cause his girl some pain if her man is ignoring her. The guy has turned all that supercharged energy that was destrying his mind from the chick's revelation into energy to charge his thinking cap and finally play the game the girl was playing with him the whole time.

But still this whole time while he is being distant the girl sits there and pays no attention to it, maybe does not even notice it. When she is talking to the guy his mind is split: Is the stuff she saying to me geniuine or is it just the same stuff she always says to get her way? Then he slowly remebers what he is dealing with: a hellcat.

So the final question: What is he waiting for? How is he gonna act? Is he gonna try to play her game and act distant and torture her a little, or is he gonna fall right back into her hellcatish ways?

So he does what most guys do: Fuck it and buys more time because he is not ready to be with or without his girl yet.

General CommentI read it differently. It's obviously about an argument where the woman says something hurtful. The "telescopic hallelujah hanging up on the wall" is her always having something negative to say about the relationship. "And did you ever get the feeling that these were things she said before" means she contantly repeats herself. "Her steady hands may well have done the devils pedicure" means he holds her responsible for the problems in the relationship. "Sing another fucking shalalalala" is him not giving a crap what she says and basically drowning her out. He's heard it all before and it means squat to him. She's just blowing steam.

General CommentJust when things are getting complicated in the eye of the storm
She flicks a red hot revelation, off the tip of her tongue
It does a dozen somersaults and leaves you supercharged
It makes me wanna blow the candles out just to see if you glow in the dark

The first stanza is a couple having an argument (the argument being the storm)
Red hot revelation is self explanatory and the "dozen somersaults" are just there to exaggerate the effect and impact of what she said to him (probably revelation of an affair).
The glow in the dark part is referring to the constant feeling of discontent in their relationship. There's no escaping the issue; even in the dark.
The shalalala between the verses is the persona trying to block everything out and pretend he's ok by humming/singing a tune.

Home sweet home, home sweet home, home sweet bobby trap
I took the batteries out my mysticism and put'em in my thinking cap
She's got a telescopic hallelujah hanging up on the wall
For when it gets too complicated in the eye of the storm

This stanza is slightly more opaque. The 3rd and 4th lines are about a point on the wall that she stares at during a stressful argument (storm).

And in a hellcat spangled cavern, when you're judgement's on the run
And your acting like a stranger, cos you thought it looked like fun
And did you ever get the feeling that these were things she said before
Her steady hands may well have done the devil's pedicure
    So what you waiting for?
    Sing another fucking shalalalala

This stanza is quite tricky. The 3rd line is about inconsistencies in her stories (again hinting at an affair). I think the "devil" in this stanza is the man she's had an affair with.
"Sing another fucking shalalala " -keep pretending nothing is wrong

My InterpretationI think this song is about being in a sort of argumental deadlock. Dealing with a problematic/complicated relationship slowly breaking apart and how it is dealt with through trying to avoid the truth and singing to block out thinking about it and having to realise and deal with the true state of the situation. Pretending and hoping everything is OK when it's not.

    Analysis:

Just when things are getting complicated in the eye of the storm
She flicks a red hot revelation, off the tip of her tongue
It does a dozen somersaults and leaves you supercharged
It makes me wanna blow the candles out just to see if you glow in the dark

First verse, things were already complicated enough she adds insult to injury by saying something which really has a significant effect on him to make him anxious and perhaps energised with disbelief, the last line emphasising on the disbelief of it all as if she could glow in the dark she really would be something completely unbelievable as if she wasn't enough already.

Home sweet home, home sweet home, home sweet bobby trap
I took the batteries out my mysticism and put'em in my thinking cap
She's got a telescopic hallelujah hanging up on the wall
For when it gets too complicated in the eye of the storm

I think the first line explains the transition of feeling good for initially being home but soon realising the atmosphere is soon to change a revert to how it truly is and the problematic relationship he needs unfortunately face. The second line emphasises this, hoping it would have changed as if by magic but having to really think it through. The third and fourth are about her ignoring the impending state of the relationship and ignoring him when it all get's too much to deal with and accept.

I think the first line is about being overwhelmed by it all, the second ignoring eachother because of the unresolved issue at hand.
The 3rd line is about her making promises to change etc. but it's all been said before
The 4th line is wondering what she is actually capable of, she may well be capable of anything and may have done the worst.
The 5th line, is his unwillingness to accept the true state of the relationship and so he resorts to singing another fucking shalalala like always with the frustration of doing so.

General CommentAlthough after posting that you could look at it from another angle because the song sounds quite happy and upbeat. It could be that the song is in fact about a one off chance for a night with a forward woman making some sort of unbelievable proposition of which he accepts and decides to go home with the woman, once at her home realising that's the kind of woman she is and has probably done it time and time again but just get on with it and enjoy it, sing another fucking shalalala

Song MeaningBasically I think this is about a man who is in a relationship with a prostitute but doesn't know she's a prostitute yet.

"Just when things are getting complicated in the eye of the storm
She flicks a red hot revelation, off the tip of her tongue
It does a dozen somersaults and leaves you supercharged"

This is about the relationship getting complicated, and the revelation is the revealing that she is a prostitute. Supercharged is a metaphor for the rising in tension in the silence that follows her telling him.

"It makes me wanna blow the candles out just to see if you glow in the dark"

Ambiguous line, I had a thought that it could be a reference to neon lights or the red light district, it would be a sarcastic remark saying if he turned the lights off she would glow like a whore under red light. "Blow out the candles" could be a reference to how old the business of prostitution is.

    "Shalalalala"

More meaningful than it seems at first sight, "shalalala" could mean the noise you make when you cover your ears and don't want to hear something, this fits in with the melancholy sound of the tune and portrays an "ignorance is bliss" attitude to what she is, thinking it would have worked out if she hadn't told him she's a prostitute.

"Home sweet home, home sweet home, home sweet booby trap"

A reference to his love for her, him setting up a home and to be "trapped" in love with a woman who may not love him.

"I took the batteries out my mysticism and put'em in my thinking cap"

Could mean he's deciding whether he could cope with her being a prostitute, this line is a hard one.

"She's got a telescopic hallelujah hanging up on the wall"
I think it would be very Alex Turner if this meant a Dildo, he'd love to have something like that in a song.

"And in a hellcat spangled cavern, when you're judgement's on the run"

A Hellcat Spangled Cavern is the brothel, with the hellcats being the whores, his judgement is on the run because he doesn't know whether to stay with the woman yet, and he's trying to avoid making a decision.

"And your acting like a stranger, cos you thought it looked like fun
And did you ever get the feeling that these were things she said before
Her steady hands may well have done the devils pedicure"

This is him looking back and realising that she showed signs of being a whore all along, these lines are a reference to sex and sex games, with the "things she's said before" meaning it looked like a routine dirty talk. "Devil's Pedicure" Is definitely meaning a handjob for money, with the devil part referencing the "sin" of prostitution, and the "Steady hands" show they are experienced in it and he is curious as to why they are so steady.

    "So what you waiting for?

    Sing another fucking shalalalala"
These lines basically mean he's trying to carry on like nothings happened.
