If you were a stone then I'd be the rain
Turn you to sand as the time slips away

If you were a tree then I'd be the earth
Clutching your roots as you reach skyward

I am a metaphor for all the things I couldn't say
It's never easy
Then it hurts
Like scratching diamonds I have tried to find my way to you
But we're both moving in reverse

I wish that we could both find a simple way just to make it by
Right now I'm alright if you're just fine

But if you were a stone then I'd be the rain
Turn you to sand as the time slips away

If you were a tree then I'd be the earth
Clutching your roots as you reach skyward

Some nights you're a photograph fading in my memory
Some days I feel you on my skin
We're trading silence
There are words that seem to steal our breath
And I just dream about your lips

I wish that we could both find a simple way just to make it by
Right now I'm alright if you're just fine

But if you were a stone then I'd be the rain
Turn you to sand as the time slips away

If you were a tree then I'd be the earth
Clutching your roots as you reach skyward

We'd count the stars
My hands in your leaves
And I'd hold my breath 'til we both fell asleep

If you were a stone then I'd be the rain,
Turn you to sand as the time slips away

I think it's about a break up, or something not working out between two people. He still has feelings for her but he never had the courage to tell her the words he wanted to say. He's alright if she's alright. Basically, he's saying that he still cares about her a lot, he still lingers for her to be around and seems to dance around the thought of them being together often. Whatever they're going through he's going to wait for her. At the same time It's hurting him to do so.

If you were a stone then I'd be the rain Turn you to sand as the time slips away

    • I don't know what this exactly interprets. What I've come up with the last part "Turn you to sand as the time slips away" Rain obviously washes sand away.. So maybe it has something to do with the person slipping away just like the time.

    • Clutching your roots as you reach skyward. Not wanting them to leave, holding them back so they don't leave.

But we're both moving in reverse

    • "I am a metaphor for all the things I couldn't say" Stating that I am this way, I feel this way, I have this mind set because all the things i couldn't say. The things I couldn't say resemble the person they've been acting. Maybe, sadness, pain, hurt, or regret.
    • "Like scratching diamonds I have tried to find my way to you" The only thing that scratches diamonds are other diamonds. Diamonds alone are rare to come across. Having a hard time finding someone.
    • "But we're both moving in reverse" Obviously they're moving backwards to the state they were before. Drifting apart.

-"Some nights you're a photograph fading in my memory" All I have left is my memory of the her.

    • "Some days I feel you on my skin" Some days it feels like they're still apart of them.

    • "We're trading silence" What was once trading conversation or body language. They are now not speaking to each other.

    • "There are words that seem to steal our breath" Words they can not bring themselves to say because it leaves them breathless.

    • "And I just dream about your lips" The other person is still lingers on their mind.

    • "My hands in your leaves" Obviously if the other person was a tree their hands would be leaves.

I don't think I've hit the nail on the head with this. Listening to it again I know I missing something but i can't come up with it.

I see it as like...they're both into each other, but she's not convinced that he's the one. He's completely devoted to her, but she's still looking. He's willing to hold on to whatever she'll give him, and wait forever, until she realizes that he's the one. There's no one else she needs.

    My Interpretation

I had to interpret this song for an english task, so this is just what I think :)

“If you were a stone, then I’d be the rain” He is saying that even though they aren’t the same any more (they aren’t both stones) that he will still be there, even if she doesn’t notice him, even if they are no longer together and even if they are no longer the same people as they used to be. “Turn you to sand, as the time slips away” So he is wearing away from her memory. She is turning from a stone into sand, so she is turning into a different person, without him, and therefore slipping away.

“If you were a tree then I’d be the Earth, clutching your roots, as you reach skyward” He is saying that she will continue to grow, maybe even away from him, but he will be clutching her for support, and he will always be there.

“I am a metaphor for all the things I couldn’t say” He is saying that he is this way, because of how he has felt, and he is the reason this has happened, because he never shared his true emotions.

“It’s never easy, then it hurts” He is saying that it wasn’t easy when they first fell apart, and that by itself was hard, but then the pain comes with time.

“Like scratching diamonds, I have tried to find my way to you” The only thing that scratches diamonds is other diamonds, and diamonds are rare. He is saying that he has tried to find others like her, but it is impossible because no one is like her. But it is also impossible for them to be together again, because they are moving away from one another. “But we’re both moving in reverse” They are moving away from each other, moving backwards to the way they were before. So he can’t find his way back to her no matter how hard he tries.

“I wish that we could both find a simple way just to make it by, but right now I’m alright if you’re just fine” He is saying that he wishes that there could be an easier way for this to work, an easier way to forget so they can both move on. He is feeling the pain, but she is fine, and that is what keeps him going.

“Some nights you’re a photograph fading in my memory” They have been apart so long that he finds it hard to remember her clearly, but yet she still lingers on his mind continually. “Some days I feel you on my skin” Some days he remembers her so well that it feels like she is still there, and that she is still a part of him.

“We’re trading silence, there are words that seem to steal our breath” Instead of trading conversation, they can no longer bring themselves to talk to each other. They are afraid of the things they might say, things that they cannot say, and therefore steal their breath away. “And I just dream about your lips” He is saying he still thinks about the conversations they held, and he remembers when they were in silence, unable to speak to one another. He thinks of the things she might have wanted to say, the things she was thinking.

“We’d count the stars, my hands in your leaves” He is telling her what could have been, counting the stars- there are billions of stars, they could have been together forever. And by leaves, instead of being the roots, as said in a previous line of the song, he would be right next to her, and he wouldn’t have to be away from her, they would be together. “And I’d hold my breath, until we both fell asleep” By holding his breath, he is saying he would do anything for her, he would risk anything to be with her, until they died- fell asleep.

    My Interpretation

I think this song is about a break up. The girl has moved on or is attempting to move on without him.

In the chorus of the song when he says,"But if you were a stone then I'd be the rain/ Turn you to sand as the time slips away," he is saying that he wants to turn her into the sands of time so he can have more time with her. "If you were a tree then I'd be the earth/ Clutching your roots as you reach skyward," he is saying that he wants to hold on to her even though she is moving on without him.

The Verse: "I am a metaphor for all the things I couldn't say/ It's never easy/ Then it hurts/ Like scratching diamonds I have tried to find my way to you/ But we're both moving in reverse" He is saying that he is ultimately the words he did not get the chance to say to her and it hurts him to know that he can't say it to her now. He wants their relationship to progress back to boyfriend and girlfriend but instead it is digressing back to friends (maybe back to strangers for her).

The lines,"I wish that we could both find a simple way just to make it by/ Right now I'm alright if you're just fine," he wished it had worked out but he would be happy if she is happy.

When he says: "Some nights you're a photograph fading in my memory/ Some days I feel you on my skin/ We're trading silence/ There are words that seem to steal our breath/ And I just dream about your lips" He truly misses her and dreams about their times together.

The repetition of,"I will wait for you," signifies that he can never get over her and will wait for her until she wants to get back with him.

this is my theory of what the song means.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
