"Knights Of Shame" as written by Aaron R. Bruno, Cameron Duddy and Daryl Jackson....
[Repeat: x4]
Dance
Baby, dance
Like the world is ending
Dance
Baby, dance
Like the world is ending
Dance
Baby, dance
'Cause the world is ending

[Repeat: x6]
This is who you are

Oh, oh

[Repeat: x2]
Sit back and look for the warnings
The future's bright and alarming
Sit back and look for the warnings

Go
Woo
Huh
Cool

[Repeat: x2]
Uh,
Baby walkin' around with your head cut off
Baby walkin' around with your head cut off

Their power is fear
And it surrounds me
Their signs, you can see
One day we will wake the walking zombies
'Til then we pray
Oo

Everybody
Everybody

The king and his ghost are laughing at me
These signs, you can see
One day we will listen for the sirens
'Til then we pray

Skeletons
Marching army
Guns
Drop your feet
I'm scared
I'm Duke Ellington
My mother said there'd be days like this
But one of the fires lit made her piss
Climbing are zombies
All up inside me
Transformin' vampires
Right beside me
And you can't run
'Cause, you do, you'll be dead
And them walls can't roll from the side of my head
I beat the drool
I beat the ghouls
But his last kiss
All suckers
They will cease to exist
I can't entertain with a beat up human
Lay waste to cities
Leave towns in ruin
I
Am a
Ro-
Bot
Whole arsenal stock
Ready to blow
Lastly you see:
Me, be three by three
Firing these things called TNT

Fire these things called TNT
These things called TNT
They call me TNT
These things called TNT

Uh,
We can dance like the world's over
Yeah, it's almost twenty twelve
Call your girls over
Let's kick back
Pop shots
Have a ball
And if the world blow up
Next life, we do it all over
Uh, yeah, let's toast to the memory
I wrote my name in the sky, so remember me
Baby, forever we
Together mentally
The day I leave me baby over somethin'
Then hell'll freeze
Froze
This world cold, like Natalie
So
Let's lose our clothes like L.E.
Back to the basics
Step out the matrix
Step out your cool
Baby, get on my spaceship
I seen her face lit
She seen a sign like a mace is
So we ran home like a bass hit
Safe
Life is whatever you think it is
Yo, what you think this is?

Uh, yeah it's all in your mind baby
You gotta do what you feel, like a blind lady
You gotta spread your wings and just fly, baby
It feel like you're reborn?
That's my baby
She said she feel it in her soul like a vibrator
I got some things for your thoughts we can try later
Let's hit the dance floor
Right before we out of time
And just party like it's nineteen ninety nine
You know what Prince said
Girl, you my princess
I got the glass slipper
I hope the thing fits
Your body on fire
Let me extinguish
Hop on this white horse
Ride to the sunset

Is anybody really
Out
There
Breathin'
Is anybody really
Sick
Of
Bleedin'
So come and scream into the
Sky
This
Evening
And 'fore the morning I'mma
Touch
Your
Feeling
(Ha)
Let's start today
(Thank you, alright)
Let's start today
(Woo, ah, yeah)
Let's start today
(Ha ha, yeah, wooo, ok)
Let's start today

Start today
Start today
Come on down

The queen's heart
The knights of shame
The people's voice
So we pray and we pray
The queen's heart
The knights of shame
So we pray and we pray
The queen's heart
The people's voice
So we pray and we pray
The queen's heart
The knghts of shame
So we pray, oh

Ooooooo

And yeah, it's no fun living for the fall
And there'll be no more waiting for you all
And there'll be one more chance for the truth
Without you
I would die
And yeah, it's no fun living for the fall
And there'll be no more waiting for you all
And there'll be one more chance for the truth
Without you
I would die

Without you
I would die

Waiting on a heartbeat
Is anybody listening?
We're waiting on a heartbeat
Can anybody hear me?

We're waiting on a heartbeat
Is anybody listening?
We're waiting on a heartbeat
Can anybody hear me?

We rob from the rich to blow down the door
Oh
We rob from the rich and blow down the door
We rob from the rich and blow down the door
Piano
We rob from the rich to blow down the door

It's been a long time, waiting on your call
It's been a long time, waiting for you all
It's been a long time, waiting for you
But I can
Bum bum bum bum bum

General CommentOne of the few songs that's over ten minutes which I actually enjoy listening to from beginning to end!

My InterpretationI think this song is kind of just about his life in general. It takes lots of different twists and turns throughout it, and if you listen to the middle section he sounds kind of rash and angry, which is a similar theme on some of his other songs. Then towards the end it's like he's looking for love when he says "waiting on a heartbeat etc. " I do agree with others when they say he talks about how messed up the human race is though.

While listening to this, I'm reminded of something I've heard recently about Mozart. In his operas, the stories he told weren't comedies or tragedies like the other stories of the time were, they were stories that highlighted the good and the bad in life, because no life is all good or all bad. I think AWOLNATION is saying that too, he has high points and low points as he goes along, and this song is all about how he deals with them.

General CommentSuch an incredible song. The ending is fantastic, got to wait 8 or 9 minutes to get to it, but worth it.

My InterpretationAlso, "Life is whatever you think it is, so what you think this is?" really stands out. He's telling you that whether you realize it or not, you are creating your reality.

General CommentThe world is fucked up but it doesn't matter. So long as they have each-other, their dance continues.

My InterpretationThis is just my interpretation mind you.. but here is my guess to what they meant the song to be:

In the first part of the song it says, "Dance like the world is ending? This is who you are? The future is bright and alarming, Sit back and look for the warnings. Walking around with your head cut off. Their power is fear. One day we will wake the walking zombies. Til then we pray."

    - Seems as if they declare that most humans are not truly aware of what is around them. They are half asleep like me at 6am. They are not enlightened and don't know what they're missing out on. Part of their 'soul' is dead and they have no passion in life. Corrupt authority rules by fear and rules over the zombies. We hope they wake up from their yoke of fear and ignorance. Till then we pray.

Next part, "King and his ghosts are laughing at me. These signs you can see. One day we will listen for the sirens. Skeletons.. guns.. armies.. inescapable.. vampires around me.. can't run.. or you'll be dead.. Beat the ghouls.. suckers will cease to exist.. cities and towns in ruin.. Lots of mention of TNT and perhaps the machinery of war and death... Dance like the world's over... Have a ball.. Step out of the matrix.. Get on my spaceship..."

    - This section the song might mean that some of them (the awakened) are recognized by some of the powerful zombies as having knowledge beyond the mundane and perhaps even threatened by them. It is because the non-zombies see the full horror and futility of human warfare and cruelty. This can change borders and power, but it will never change the manevolent part of human nature. It seems inevitable, so why not just dance like the world's over? By stepping out of the 'matrix' or the 'current illusion' that is perpetuated by media and culture.. one can come to the realization that 'it doesn't have to be this way. There is a different way.'

Then it goes on with the "Uh, yeah it's all in your mind baby... Ride into the sunset" and the "Is anybody out there" section.

    - This seems to say that your reality is, quite literally, all in your mind. We have our senses and a lot of mental artistry that composes our imperfect version of reality. If reality is all in our heads, and we share our reality with others by our social nature.. we share our universe with others.. then why not try to make it a 'Better' reality and spread the message that a 'Better' reality can actually exist. The patterns of thought can eventually manifest in 'reality' through the better actions and words toward others perhaps? Then it seems to say.. Why not even try to make human existance something exceedingly good? We are capable. So is there anybody out there breathing that can understand and share this idea?

In the section with "The queen's heart.. The knights of shame.. The people's voice.. No fun living for the fall.. one more chance for the truth.. without you I would die.. Can anyone hear me? Rob from the rich to blow down the door. It's been a long time, waiting on your call.. But I can."

    - I'm taking a chance on this interpretation too, but The Knights of Shame could mean everyone that is 'enlightened' but does not put much effort into helping others to realize that there is more to life than the mundane and lower natures of humanity. That there are still wonders, hope, small miriacles, large miriacles, love.. Plato would have called this ultimate goal as pursuing the 'The Form of the Good'. 'The people's voice' I think just means the collective unconcious of everyone and ulitmately.. actions and words that change the world. The queen's heart? Is it a good queen? Or perhaps an 'evil' queen (corrupt authority) that tells the Knights what to do and most of them obey the corrupt queen's orders futher enslaving them? I'm really not sure. Then the end of the song seems to say they 'rob' from the rich to wake people up from their Zombie nap. Perhaps use avenues of 'big money' to perpetuate a message that the 'big money' don't even understand perhaps? Stealthy mass marketing of the truth? Why not?

General CommentI love this song so much! This, good old "Free Bird", and The Mars Volta's "Day of the Baphomets" are my top 3 favorite long songs.

I particularly like part of the song starting with the lyric "skeletons" until the end. The beginning is alright, but it starts off really pop sounding. The beauty of the song is the massive sound changes that happen every 2 verses or so, it almost feels like a club mix of multiple other songs (kinda like "Day of the Baphomets").

General CommentI really like this album but i just dont get this. Its like he had a bunch of stuff that wouldnt fit into their own songs and threw it all together. Just doesnt do it for me, I dont understand how the other three people think its good music. Some parts are, but together as a whole, its not.

General CommentMy girlfriend and I think the riff behind the "this is who you are" part is incredibly familiar but neither of us can place it. Can anyone help us figure out where we think we know the tune from

My InterpretationI disagree with the suggestion that this is a bunch of random thoughts. I can't fit all the pieces together, but I don't think that is because of his writing, I think it's my own ignorance. When I first heard this song I thought it was about sex. I wasn't listening enough.

Now I think it is about "waking up" to the things going on in this world. As for the title, when you realize you are part of a nation that has been committing horrible crimes against humanity, you start to feel ashamed of your species. And probably feel shame for the fact there are mindless zombies walking around oblivious to their surroundings.

I think "walking around with your head cut off" is another way of calling people zombies... because if they aren't using their heads (or brain,) they are basically mindless zombies.

Then he goes on to say...

"Uh, yeah it's all in your mind baby
You gotta do what you feel, like a blind lady
You gotta spread your wings and just fly, baby
    It feel like you're reborn?
    That's my baby"

Reinforcing the power of the mind.

"She said she feel it in her soul like a vibrator
I got some things for your thoughts we can try later"

Could be a reference to feeling music, but given the prior lines, I think it goes deeper than that. It seems he is talking about meditation. When you meditate, you can feel energy vibrating throughout your body.

I am very curious about the TNT reference. It sounds similar to DMT, to me. I think he was being purposefully cryptic, since this substance, naturally occuring in plants and humans, is actually illegal. Look it up. DMT is produced in the brain through meditation and dreaming.

He also asks "is anybody really out there breathing?"
Could mean, "are you alive, or the walking dead?"
Could also be a reference to meditation, where breathing is very important.

Anyway, I think this song is spiritual in its meaning, in short.
