I got so sick of being on my own
Now the devil won´t leave me alone
It's almost like I found a friend
Who's in it for the bitter end
Our consciences are always so much heavier than our egos
I set my expectations high
So nothing ever comes out right
So shoot a star on the boulevard tonight
I think I'll figure it out with a little more time
But who needs time
Turn off the lights, turn off the lights
Turn on the show for me tonight
I've got my heavy heart to hold me down
Once it falls apart my heads in the clouds
So I'm taking every chance I've got
Like the man I know I'm not
So sick of wasting all my time
How in gods name did I survive?
I need a little sympathy
To sore my insecurities
Our consciences are always so much heavier than our egos
I set my expectations high
So nothing ever comes out right
So shoot a star on the boulevard tonight
I think I'll figure it out with a little more time
But who needs time
Turn off the lights, turn off the lights
Turn on the show for me tonight
I've got my heavy heart to hold me down
Once it falls apart my heads in the clouds
So I'm taking every chance I've got
Like the man I know I'm not
Oh oh oh, mhm
A heavy heart on the boulevard tonight, oh
Shooting stars watch me fall apart tonight, woah
Turn off the lights, turn off the lights
Turn on the show for me tonight
I've got my heavy heart to hold me down
Once it falls apart my heads in the clouds
So I'm taking every chance I've got
Like the man I know I'm not
Oh woah, oh woah, oh woah
Oh woah, oh woah, oh woah

General CommentDUDE THIS SONG IS ABOUT BRENDON DOING SOMETHING TO DISAPPOINT HIS DAD 'CAUSE HE REALLY LOVES HIS DAD so he's like "like the man i know i'm not" haha that sounds like a disney lyric. but like he's talking about his dad because he wants to be like his dad but he's not.

but yeah seriously this song is about brendon disappointing his dad and like his dad kicks him out or something or he's just going for a walk after he got in a fight w/ his dad. like when they kicked him out because brendon wanted to be in a band!

totally accurate. i'm so freaking smart dude.

My InterpretationI believe this song (in general) is about being alone.

He's at one point so desperately alone he turns to "the devil".

His consequences are literally worse than his ego because his ego got him there and the consequence is affecting things now.

He (like most of us) sets his expectations high and because of that he always fails

because of this he stops caring, he'll take all the chances he wants (like being with this girl:
    "turn off the lights
Turn on the show for me tonight")

and by the line: "like the man I know I'm not"
a "man" in his view would take these chances.... and even though he's taking them now to, he thinks and believes just wont live up to the expectations.

"how in god's name did I survive?" seems to be obvious as to how did he survive my past actions.

Also the part of: "Once it falls apart my heads in the clouds
So I'm taking every chance I've got"
seems to mean that hes going to take chances and he what he wants because afterwards he may go insane or a less dramatic form because he'll be back where he started.

Hey maybe this song is about his dad.... but to me this song is about expectations, loneliness, and takings chances.

This interpretation may not make the most sense, but I hope you understand how I see it.

General CommentI wouldnt go as far as saying this is strictly about his dad but I think it really is about how he has let down people, which yes would include his dad. But this could be a range of people such as ex band members (Brent, Ryan, Jon), Maybe Pete (DecayDance) and FueledByRamen (he could feel that the band breaking up was caused by himself and feels that he has disappointed them) but maybe more importantly the fans (I think its more about the fans than anything)

    I set my expectations high
So nothing ever comes out right

Could be him thinking about his big expectations for the band in its infant stage (just signing, first album, fists tour and all that jazz) and he feels that it all gone wrong now that two members are gone.

    I need a little sympathy
    To sore my insecurities

He did get a whole lot of sympathy and shit from people after Jon and Ryan left, I think this part is just saying that he wanted all the sympathy he could get to hide all the insecurities he had.

Thats all I got for now :)

General CommentI think this songs about his family in general. Before P!ATD was formed, Brendon was a mormon and he told his parents he was in a band and they kicked him out. "Now the devil won't leave me alone" might be a metaphor for him being distant from his religion and like recklessmind said, "like the man I know I'm not" might be directed towards his Dad who might of told him to man up or something along those lines.

General Commentmaybe its about him like getting intimate with sarah for the first time or like realizing he's in love with her
it makes sense as well if you really think about the lyrics.
