"Bruises to Prove It" as written by and Eric Elbogen....
You open your eyes again to a God
That was better than the night before
The angry collection of punches
And dancing ended up curled on the floor

And you got the scars and stitches to prove it
And you got the bruises to prove it, too
Well, you got the taste for the pain, you heard me
And you got to do what you're supposed to do

Still that's better than a torn up heart.
It's still that's better than a torn up heart.

Only some "How do you do" and again
Till night goes on holding onto you
And the glow of the lights makes
The hue of your skin between violet and blue

And you got the mussed up hair to prove it
And you got the teeth to prove it, too
Well, you got the taste for the heavy heavy
And you got the exit and tired, too

But that's better than a torn up heart.
It's still that's better than a torn up heart.
That's better than a torn up heart,
it's better than a torn up heart.

Song MeaningI think it's pretty straight forward.. Your heart is bleeding and you're so heart broken and torn you prefer to hurt your body to numb the real pain inside your heart and soul. Perhaps the only thing that's open for interpretation is the way you hurt yourself. Self inflicted? Starting random fights with people? Drug and alcohol abuse? anything goes I guess. Love is a bitch.
